We just changed brake lines in 2004 Grand Prix now the shifter moves put the car does not go into gear why ?we can hear like a swoosh sound maybe from master cylinder also

Check all fuses and make sur eyou don't have a blown fuse, first if they are all good then there is a switch on the top of the brake paedal that releases the lock on the shift (Its a safety so that if a kid is in the car with out pressing on brake they could engage the shift to drive) THat switch may be bad. This sound you hear is your cooant going to your heater core. Check your coolant level , radiator cap and thermostat. one of these mught be on its way out. What you need to do is have your linkage checked....on my 98 Grand Am the bolts holding my linkage in place came loose...and one accualy fell out...would not let me shift....I bolted the linkage back down and everything was ok....

Possibly shift interlock problem check the btsi fuse in the instrument fuse panel. There is a shift lock actuator in the column or center console that could be your culprit depending on if you have a column or floor shifter.
