A healthy battery reading 12.43 should still be capable of cranking an engine fast enough with enough current left over for the fuel and sparks to start - that is assuming the spark plugs, etc. are also in good condition.

An off-load reading of 12.43 means little on it's own and is only one of a number of tests used to determine battery state. The most important test is to measure the battery voltage while the engine is cranking. It is reckoned a healthy battery attached to a healthy engine, starter, ignition system, etc. will ideally read no less than 12 volts - an analogue meter is best for this test.

12 volts is rather optimistic even for a serviceable system. 10 volts is more realistic and some engines will happily start at 9 volts as long as the cranking speed is still good but any lower and either the battery is in a too-low state of charge, is faulty or the starter motor is taking too much current and needs servicing.

Toyota avalon 2000 battery flat ...put starter pack on battery start pack fully charged .....did not start car only clicked starter motor gone ?

Those starter packs are really for a boost . If your battery is dead
its better to replace it especially Toyota they seem to be finicky about a good stiff battery
if you have a multi meter put it on the battery terminals and have someone try to crank while observing the voltage
if the voltage drops below 10 volts usually that battery is on the road to letting you down

My car starts only when boosted

Measure the voltage across the car battery with a volt meter with the alternator running .. It needs to read 13.4 volts or higher to charge the battery.

1991 camry wont start

Maybe.
You'll need to check all of the fuses to find out. You may need a test light or meter to check them correctly.

Car wont start unless boosted battery shows 12 volts with meter key off and 9 volt when tried to start

After you get it started check to see what the output of your alternator is it should be 14.4 volts if this is the reading your battery may be bad you do need a certain amount of not only voltage to start but also amps from the battery

I have a 1995 safari van charged battery and took it off charger it then wouln;t start so i boosted it, then started took it for a drive and then shut it off it wouldnt start whats wrong with it?

May have a bad starter solenoid and the extra boost is whats needed to get it to work.
May also have a dead cell in the battery. Use a multi meter and test the battery. Should have about 12.6 volts. 12 volts would not be a full charge. May even want to take the battery to a parts store and have it tested unless you have a tester to check the amps.

Car will not crank up. When you turn the key in the ignition you hear tic, tic, tic, tic, tic...the lights come on, the doors lock and the radio comes on.

If the battery is old, it may no longer have the cranking amp it needs to turn the starter. If you have a multi-meter. Check the load on the battery when you get someone to start the engine, if the meter reads that it drops below 10.5 volts. You need a new battery, if the readings are good, then you'll need a new starter.

Good luck and keep us posted, a set of good jumper cables and another car may help get the engine started for now by boosting the battery.

Its a pontiac 99 grand am se and it wont start, i got a boost and it started i went back out 2 hours later it was dead again whats wrong.

Sounds like you may have a bad alternator or battery. Get another boos and check the voltage on the battery when the engine is running with a DC meter. It should read between 13.2 to 18.2 volts DC. If it is below 13.2 you will need to replace the alternator. If it is reading between 13.2 and 18.2 volts DC then you may just need to replace the battery.
