Does the van have to have a EATX shutdown relay?

Larry Ng is our Jeep Expert, plus he owns one and will be along shortly, but this may explain it on a different model. They share fuse boxes but not all have the EATX relay.

possible trans relay

Might be the ignition switch in the steering column. When you use the remote you bypass that switch. My understanding of the eatx is the car won't start at all.

Replace the fuse housing! This should fix the problem, or it may also be a ground issue. I would check for a ground fault first.

eatx supplies the transmission with voltage. I've never heard of an eatx safety shutdown relay. there is a transmission control relay in the pdc and that's it.

There is an (auto shut down relay) located on the van in the fuse/relay panel under the hood. It controls the fire to the coil,fuel injectors alternator. (never ever heard of a (eatx relay)??? Or a (eatx backup relay)??? Hope this will help you.

eatx stands for electronic automatic transmission controller
the eatx relay provides power for the controller and the backup eatx relay is for the backup lights

It might not be the relay you are hearing, but the electronic fuel pump (located in the gas tank....yeh!!!) turning on and off. Have you had this checked out??
