Why are you replacing it?? 99% of all powertrain control modules are not defective and are replaced in error to try and correct a problem.

SOURCE: how to bleed slave cylinder for 1997 suzuki

Hi if the sidekick is the same as the uk vitara then they don't have a slave cylinder just a clutch cable with a nut near the end to adjust it. If its like a grand vitara they have got a slave cylinder, just crack the bleed nipple off put one end of a small pipe on the end of the nipple and drop the other end in a bottle that is roughly half full of break and clutch fluid, ask someone to pump the clutch pedal until no more air bubbles are coming out then tighten the bleed nipple back up. make sure to keep a check on brake fluid levels while doing this.

Have replaced computer twice that both burned out in very short time apart and now having it checked I need to replace another computer what could be causing my computer system to burn out so quickly

ill start with....... any time youmpost an automotive question you need to let us know the year make model and engine size!

the computer controls and monitors many different things. there has to be something that the computer is looking at or controlling that is failing. Tat part that is failing is being overlooked. When the computer fails what is not working? That is what you need to figure out. Once that is figured out the part tat is not working can be repaired and then, and only then, can the computer can be replaced with the confidence of a proper repair.

computers generally do not fail. its the components that are tied top the computer that fail that cause the computer to then fail.

Replaced the MAF sensor - nothing. Took it to a authorized toyota shop & checked compression which check out good and put the computer on. Computer read mis-fire on cylinder 1, and then multiple misfire (like it would jump around). We went ahead and replaced the fuel injector on cylnder 1 - did not solve problem as when we hook the computer up, misfire seemed tp stay at idle and seem better when running high RMP, but check engine light is on as it never went away. Went ahead and replaced the coil pack to cylinder 1 - nothing. what am i missing?

Inspect/Test/Service/Replace

CAUTION
If you remove and repair a ground connection, be sure you reconnect it to the same place. Do not change the length of the wire.

  • People who work around sensitive components sometimes wear a ground strap attached to their wrist.
  • You can eliminate the static electricity by touching ground before you touch a computer.
  • Do not take the computer out of the container until you are already in the front seat.
The computer is rarely the cause of problems in the fuel system. When it is, the parts are not repaired. The entire unit is replaced.
  • Remanufactured computers are widely available at a reduced cost for popular makes of cars.
  • Some imported car computers are very costly because there are not enough cores available for exchange.
Be sure to check the power and ground circuits before replacing a computer.
Electronic instruments can be damaged by excessive voltage, heat, moisture, or vibration, so computers are usually mounted in the driver's compartment.
  • Sometimes, they are in the right-hand kick panel (in front of the passenger door) or near the glove box.

  • Other times they are located under the passenger seat.
  • Newer computers are designed to dissipate heat more quickly. Some of these are installed in the engine compartment.
  • To be safe, pull the computer fuse before unhooking its connectors.
To remove the unit:
WARNING Disconnect the negative battery cable. Electronic Control Computer removal procedures vary according to vehicle make and model. Consult your service manual for the procedure.
  • If necessary, remove any plates or covers.
  • Disconnect the wiring harness.
  • Unbolt the module from its mounting.
Some computers have a replaceable element call a programmable read-only memory (PROM).
f75-21.gif On some cars the PROM is replaceable. Courtesy of General Motors Corporation, Service Technology Group. The old PROM is installed in the replacement computer. Other later model computers have electronically erasable (EE) flash PROMS. These are programmed electronically, either in the dealership or by telephone modem from the manufacturer.
To replace the unit:
  • Bolt the module to its mounting. Torque the bolts to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Connect the wiring harness.
  • Reinstall the kick plate or other cover.
After replacement of the computer or when a battery has been disconnected, poor driveability and performance can result until the computer relearns the best driveability settings. Hard starting, high idle, stumble, and stalling are possible symptoms.
Wiring Connections
When connections are replaced:
  • Use solder rather than crimp connectors.
  • In areas where the roads are salted in the winter, use shrink tubing over the soldered connection. Salt accelerates the corrosion process.

The 1998 Cadillac Deville is a very nice vehicle. If you want to hang on to it there doesn't seem to be much choice but to replace the computer, even if it is expensive.

Try getting the computer from the salvage yard based on your VIN.

The computers on cars won't get any cheaper on newer vehicle that might replace the 1998 Cadillac Deville, so, I would get the computer replaced, if financially feasible, and enjoy a nice running Cadillac.
