I have a 2002 Dakota 2 wheel drive, automatic, just change the tranny, bought used, it works fine just don't know how to adjust my hard shift problem. Starting from 1st to 2nd, truck rpm's rev up to 2700 rpm's before shifting, then once again going to 3rd gear about 2800 rpm's, i don't believe it is a serious problem, any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Dont think they changed it yet but the older chrysler units had a rod that went from the throttle linkage to the transmission (maybe a cable now)...If you lengthen the rod it will increase shift pressure and give you an earlier shift.

If it wont shift at all, its very likely computer related. Its unlikely it could be vacuum because of its age. Their is a computer for newer trans and sometimes some of the components can fail. I once bought an accord that lost 2nd and 3rd due to its computer, shifted great after i hit the junk yard. If it shifts hard though, solenoids and valve body gasket.
It sounds like your input clutch seals are rolling. Is the check engine light on. It could also be the pressure control solenoid could be causing the problem aswell
Try a tranny service change a place that changes the filter the pan gasket and fluid not some of these quick places that just drain a couple quarts out of the tranny lines and thats it that wont help but a complete tranny service should help.
