I changed the battery terminal and now car battery wont stay charged. The car will run with a jump start but when I turn the key off the car will not crank again without another jump start. The alternator is good but I have gone through 2 batteries so far the cells end up being bad after a week or so. My positive cable has 2 wires on it and I'm not sure what to do with the second smaller cable. I have bought 2 different terminals for it to work on and it does not work still. I'm so frustrated at this point.
II sounds like the battery lead is connected up incorrectly and it may not be allowing the battery to charge properly or maybe in reverse.
At some point your really need to cut your losses and take your car to an Auto Electrical professional who can visually diagnose the problem - quickly and cheaply.
You will get it fixed properly, and save a lot of heartache !!!!

I figured out Sunday that the 2nd wire on the positive is the alternator wire. I traced all wires and did not find anything frayed or cut. I took battery positive and negative off and let sit for 10 min reconnected, jump started the car and let it run for about 30 mins. Turned car off and it started back up. (Shocked) I waited 15 min and drove car on interstate. All lights popped on and off again all lights dimmed on the inside and I just preyed that I make it back home. I made it home turned car off. It started back up though; all lights were still on ie. Track Off, Battery. Crunk up fine this a.m. needless to say I took it to a shop for all wires to be replaced. I will keep you updated.

Check the fuses first. Just pull them one at a time and look. Some are a pain to get out. Old computers could be trashed by jumping the battery or hooking it up wrong. They fixed that years ago. Put better protection on the back side of computers. Smaller fuses also. My bet, you blew a fuse. Also, you can have the codes read.

So now its at the shop and they are saying eveything is fine. The car is not doing what I said it was doing. Laughing hard it figures right. So now I'm looking at replacing the entire wiring of the car just to see if it fixes it. Do you think I should do this or try driving it a while to see if it acts up again?
