There are lots of ideas here, but due to the fact you can smell gas, clean the Throttle Body with spray cleaner. It isn't shutting properly. Clean the MAF (Mass Air Fuel) sensor as well.
nissan cvt's are well known for stepper motor failure.Plug the ECU onto a diagnosis machine to be sure but if the jerking is accompanied by failure to smoothly change up and down gears it is the stepper motor.If everythng else is ok check fuel pump
AWD is computer controlled in your 05 Murano. AWD lock is for low speeds under 10 MPH or something like that. I've had my 05 Murano since 05 and never used AWD lock. Between VDC and AWD I've never had any problem getting around. My salesmen told me it was for low speed/towing...I never tow so I've never used it.
I recently experienced the same symptom with my '05 Murano and it was not a fuel problem. The dealer listed the cause as dry axle splines and replaced both front drive shaft assy's. Note that this was done as warranty with no cost incurred by me.
check the air ducts that are clamped on between the air filter and the intake, sounds like air is getting leaking in. make sure the air box is on right and the clamps are tight
You probably already figured this out, but you have to remove the wiper arm completely in order to replace the wiper blade.
The blades are an unusual size (somewhere around 14 1/2") and I believe they are only available from a Nissan dealership. They include printed instructions in the box but just in case, this is from the official Nissan service manual:
