1999 F350 turning over not starting. Narrowed down to ignition switch. Installed new one. Turn it over once and when tried again-nothing. Heard click like the solenoid but the engine didn't turnover.
This is a 1999 National RV Seaview, but it's built on a Ford F-350 V10 chassis.

There could be several reasons why your 2003 F350 automatic won't turn over with the key but will with the remote wire. Here are a few possible causes and things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
Faulty ignition switch: The ignition switch may be damaged or malfunctioning, preventing the key from turning the engine over. You may need to replace the ignition switch to fix the problem.
Faulty starter motor: The starter motor may be malfunctioning, preventing the engine from turning over. You may need to replace the starter motor to fix the problem.
Electrical issue: There may be a problem with the electrical system, such as a damaged wiring harness or a blown fuse, that is preventing the engine from turning over. Check the wiring and fuses and repair or replace any damaged components as needed.
Security system issue: If your F350 is equipped with a security system, it may be preventing the engine from turning over. Try disarming the security system and see if that fixes the problem.
I hope this information is helpful. If you have tried these troubleshooting steps and are still experiencing problems, it may be best to seek the help of a qualified mechanic who can diagnose and fix the problem.
was it a new battery if not clean up your terminals they may be corroded and dirty also check out fuses and relays when you turn on the ignition does the radio and lights work if they work you have a connection problem
When you turn the key to start position that 2 or 3 times does starter click? or does it do nothing? If it clicks starter selanoid on starter is bad, If it don't click at all its ignition switch thats bad.
It could either be a BAD starter or a BAD ignition they both would have the same symptoms of a "CLICK" alone. I would most likely lean toward the ignition because the key is difficult to turn but its not all ways true that key is tight because the ignition is bad, although possible. It could just mean a bad ignition cylinder(just the key part why its tight) I want you to do a test for me. With clutch engaged turn key to start position and listen for click on starter in the hood, when trying to start. If you hear starter click then the ignition switch is good. (Before you do this make sure that battery is FULLY CHARGED).STARTER IS AT FAULT. IF no clicking is heard coming from starter check starter fuse and if its good YOU have a BAD ignition switch. Contact if you need more hep and Thanks for using FIX YA
the starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. Good luck.
On the back of the ignition switch is a plastic casing which retains a spring to return your key to the correct position once the car has started. The plastci casing wears and the spring does not work sufficiently. You need to replace the ignition switch casing/back end.
ther is a linkage between the key switch and the ignition switch that is under the dash on the steering column. it is called an accuator. i have been driving fords a long time and i have changed five of them since 1980 when ford put the switch on the column. you will have to start off by removing the steering wheel then yhe ignition switch and so on. it is tricky... but not bad..
