SOURCE: The RPM of Nissan Altima stays high when drive over 65 MPH.

No....the rpms differ from engine to engine and from manufacturer to manufacturer. RPM's are always higher at higher speeds.

Either the gauge is bad, the cable is kinked or the speedometer connector is bad...at the tranny.

SOURCE: I just wanted to know the optimal shifting points

How many gears does your car have? One of my cars has to do a little over 3000rpm to maintain 70-75 in 5th gear. My other car has to do about 3000rpm to maintain 65-70 in 5th gear.

It all depends on the number of gears your car has and the gearing ratio. The second car I have is geared more optimally for city driving and gets better fuel economy going slower than fast highway speeds.

Having driven several rental cars too I would say anywhere between 2500 to 3000 is reasonable for the average car. If you are driving a vehicle like say a porsche, bmw or audi they may have more gears and may be at a lower rpm at 70mph than your car.

SOURCE: 2002 chrysler concorde lx low idle

with a 2002 Concord 3.5 V-6, what should the rpm be at 60mph? 70 mph?

I'm not sure if the overdrive gear is lost in the tranny, but the transmission light is on.

Thanks

Will go into drive and reverse but will not pull in either gear.when rpm drop down it acts like it wants to pull. It has 178,000 miles any idea.

It sounds like you are low on fluid, check and top off as needed. After toping off if needed drop into first and see if it pulls, than drop into second and see if it pulls, than drive. If you get nothing in any gear than you have probably lost you pump or input shaft or spline.

Jerking accelerating

This may be normal but you can adjust your driving to reduce the impact. To speed up the warm up process of the catalytic converters, the power train computer holds first gear a little longer than normal. This causes your car to get higher in the rpm range than normal, at part throttle, which causes the hard shift. On your first drive, try NOT to accelerate while the car is in first gear--it won't take long for you to learn how far this is.

My transmission shift very hard. The drive shaft had to be changed when I bought the car. My car is a 1990 BMW 525i

Sounds like you have problems with a part called the valve body inside the transmission or other hydraulic control problems, i suspect you will need to overhaul the transmission to cure this.

Over drive ? what's the meaning of over drive and hold in Huyndai trajet 2007? Thank you

Overdrive means that the ratio for top gear is OVER that of 1 to 1 (normally 4th gear).so 5th gear may be .8 to 1 (one turn of the input shaft of the gearbox to 1 turn of the output shaft.)Hold.means the gearbox will HOLD a gear (either longer OR permanently)so if HOLD on first gear, it will stay in first (for ice/mud).some gearboxes will hold onto a gear for longer than normal for towing.(this explanation applies to ALL cars NOT just hyundai/kia).
