Hi Delvhone:
Unless you are located in a very cold climate (Like Siberia) it should not present a problem. If the engine has higher mileage it may actually be an improvement.
Cheers
im pretty sure this model holds 4 & 1/2 quarts, although, i would put 4 quarts in it for starters and check the level, i recommend castrol 10w 30 even though it calls for 5w 30, 10w wont hurt it especially in a warmer climate
Mine is doing the same exact thing. I recently took it to an oil change place here in town and they put the wrong oil 10W-30 in it and the wrong filter. It needs motorcraft 5W-30 from what I hear. Im taking it to the Ford dealership today. I feel your pain my friend, it's extremley annoying. I will keep you updated if the new oil fixes the problem. Also have you checked the oil sending unit?
Well if you have a an ower's manual in the car it will show you everything and how to. and to check the oil you have to pull the dipstick out and see if the level is in between Full and Low if it it is on low that mean you need to add more oil. and your owner's manual will also tell you what kind of oil it recomands you to use and I personally use Castrol. and for 1997 Ford Expedition i think 10w/40 Would be fine. and you ahev to change your oil after 3000 miles of use Sometimes more than that but 3000 just if you want to keep everything in good shape and keep your baby for a while. Good luck
oil filter located inside of front drivers side fender. lay down and look up you will see the filter in the front of the fender. oil drain plug located on the back of the black oil pan I think its a 15mm bolt unbolt let drain. When done draining put it back in the oil pan. next pull oil filter off turn counter clockwise and put new filter back on then fill with 6quarts of oil. I think its 5w-30 but you can use 10w-30 won't hurt it.
