It's a constant whinning sound loud
Tensioner, alternator, power steering pump, water pump. All of these can cause this. Using either a mechanics stethoscope or a long screw drive (place you screwdriver near not on the pulley if each decice. Then place you ear to the handle..the screwdriver will transmit any sounds to your ear. Always be careful of clothing, jewelery hair etc so I'd doesn't get caught in the belts or pulleys) locate what is making the noise and replace.

Sounds like it's starving for fluid. The noise you hear is probably a clogged filter. It it's been going on for a long period of time, you may have trans damage. I would recommend changing the fluid and filter and add some Lucas trans additive. I'm not much on additives but this stuff works. Hope this helps. Phil

Normally I would advise exactly how to do a job, but this is one of those tasks that you NEED to buy a haynes manual so you have the correct tightening/torquing sequence, the correct method to set the timing, etc. This can be an involved process, and without the proper illustrations and information, would be homocide to your vehicle's engine to undertake. While you're in there, you'll want to change out the timing chain as well though, FYI.

I would say a bad pulley also. Try to open the hood at idle and see if you can hear where it's coming from. Possibly a bad idle pulley or even the fan belf if yours is a mechanical fan.

Timing belt will last longer then water pump. Don't worry about it and replace if water pump goes out. Have worked on v6 vues with over 200,000 miles before needed pump and never seen one break.
