Looking for the steering wheel control wire or wires in my 2006 Mitsubishi 380

Hi . I have replaced the factory head unit and need to know where the steering wheel control wires are. I used a plug and play harness for the unit but have no wheel controls. I do have a factory plug that wasn't used so I'm assuming that the wires I need are in it somewhere.

If there are no wheel controls there probably isn't a wiring harness in the vehicle. If you have controls and are wanting to use them there is a special interface required and the radio has to support this feature.

Im trying to install my sony WX-GT90BT head unit to my 2003 r8 maloo ute with the steering wheel control harness, i need a detailed diagram and wiring colours from my maloo to the sony head unit

http://forums.justcommodores.com.au

this group has listing for various platforms since I am unfamiliar with these you will have to do some digging..there is a whole section for audio. Your factory steering wheel ccontrols will not work without a special interface and then only if the Sony supports this feature. Also if this is similar to US spec GM vehicles then you have a databus system and will lose things like the chime system without an appropriate interface harness

If i replace my factory stero will steering wheel controls still work

probably not unless you get a unit that is designed to replace the faulty part as the factory fitted unit has the wiring built in for the steering controls.

Can you put a newer radio in a 2001 yukon

Hi, my research indicates you can install a single din aftermarket head unit in the 2001 Yukon.
A couple of good websites to use are crutchfield and modifiedlife.
Crutchfields will identify exactly what adapters are needed, and modified life has the factory wire colors.
You will need an adapter to fill the space between the aftermarket stereo and the hole left by removing the factory head unit.
You will also need an antenna plug adapter.
I recommend you buy the wire harness pigtail to simplify the installation--this may or may not include the antenna plug adapter.
If you have onstar, you will need an additional adapter.
If you have steering wheel controls, you will need another adapter to keep those.
Keep the above things in mind when selecting a new aftermarket stereo, as you will need one that is compatible with steering wheel controls and onstar, if you have either of those and want them to continue to work with the new stereo.
Crutchfield has an link called "outfit my car" that takes you through a "Turbo tax" style questionaire and tells you what will work and what you will need. here is the link: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Car/outfitmycar/MyCar.aspx

Assuming you have a base Yukon, here are your factory wire colors from modifiedlife.com:

Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Yellow
Car Radio Ground Wire: Black
Car Radio Illumination Wire: Brown

Have a hyundai santa fe 2006, has a horn fault, it just comes on by it self occasionally, have checked wiring and everything, all ok, changed the micro relay in the front of the engine for the horn system,...

This is going to be in the clockspring. the clockspring is a ribbon wire that allows for the steering wheel to be turned while allowing for all the wiring for all the accessories attatched to the steering wheel to be powered. It is not uncommon to have a break in a wire or even more than 1 wire. The steering wheel must be removed to replace this unit. Be sure to disconnect the battery prior to removal because this also powers the air bag system. If the system gets a jolt while attempting to remove this unit, it could explode the airbag and cause injury or death. If you need further instructions, be sure to let me know.

Eps light is on and steering is stiff

EPS is activated only when the driver steers the steering wheel, thus reducing energy loss compared with the hydraulics. Its modular design allows for easy assembly. EPS consists of motor, electronic control unit (ECU), torque sensor and steering gear.
bar.gif Our unique control algorithm allows for improved handling. bar.gif Compact, light weight. bar.gif Capable of controlling motors from 25 to 80A. bar.gif Standardized column integrated or stand alone ECU.Basically its a electrically power steering to assist the driver to turn the steering wheel. Check the electronic control unit(ECU) for any short/burnout and the wiring should be pliable. If not then proper amount of current is not reaching the motor.
The light can light up if there a failure of the motor or any sensor is activated when this circuit has any problem.
Get i checked & repaired from their authorized Dealer and also get a service warranty for the part replaced as per norms out there.
However repair immediately otherwse you might find the steering wheel turning in haphazard manner or it could get locked while driving! .........................................sodeep
