I was driving my 2002 kia spectra and when I pressed the clutch I felt something snap and then my clutch wouldn't change gears. What could be wrong

change the clutch cable its more than likely broken if you get someone to depress the the clutch peddle and watch at the engine end see if it moves

Hi, when i'm coming off the third and the second gear mainly the 2nd gear it makes a clanking noise

My first thought here is your drive shaft u joints, but only because I've been stranded more than once by these. The higher torque of second will definitely make a worn u-joint "clunk". with the window down listen carefully as you engage and release your clutch in 1st gear, if you here any "clunking" noise I would check your u-joints. To do this SAFELY;ie, using jack stand etc. get under your car and try to turn the drive shaft by hand with the car in gear. ANY play in the drive shaft is bad. I'm not sure if you meant you've changed your clutch and the pressure plate or you did change out you flywheel. either way whichever you did not change could definitely be warped.

MY 2009 KIA ONLY HAS 18000 MILES ON IT AND NOW I AM BEING TOLD I NEED TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH - MY HUSBAND AND I ARE IN OUR LATE 50S AND ARE THE ONLY DRIVERS OF THIS CAR - SO WILL I HAVE TO REPLACE THIS ONCE...

Honestly, no. You shouldn't have to. Unfortunately, this is a common problem with the 2.0 Kia Spectra. I'm an owner of one, myself. Although I'm a 25 year old male and drove this car 30,000 miles, I babied this car. I had to replace the stock clutch plates at about 16,000 miles, and did so with a stage II clutch set from eClutchMaster.com. This performance clutch lasted about 13,000 more miles before also giving out. I believe there to be a defect in the slave cylinder set-up that causes the plate to fail to fully seat on the flywheel. (I'm a mechanic) Unfortunately, there hasn't been a recall as of yet, but keep an eye out.

Clunking noise when you let the cluch out with front tires on and off the ground.

without being there,i would say that its possibly the clutch friction plate springs that are weak, and as they have some "play"the clunk is when they take up the slack....nothing serious, and as long as its just a noise, leave it until you need to replace clutch assembly....

I have a 1997 golf gti and when i **** from 1st to 2nd something hits the ground i dont know what it is. Secondlly its making a bit of a grinding noise from the exhast manifold almost sounds like a diesel...

Sounds like when they replaced the engine some of the clamps and mountings should have been replaced as well. The clutch should certainly have been replaced. First to second is almost always a big change under acceleration so it is probably an engine mounting that is making the noise as sounding like a big clunk, the connection between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe is probably where the other noise is coming from. It is a spring loaded joint and does take a hammering when one of the mountings go bad.

Just started to pull away from a stop in 1st and

sounds as though your input shaft broke, this would cause a loud clunk, cause it to feel as though in gear, and cause no pull.

My solstice has a clunk from differential area when driving slow or sitting still and release the clutch enough to engage. another trans clutch kit flywheel and diff and still has same problem. 2006

Check the drive shaft u-joints.Another indication of bad u-joints is a vibration at certain speeds (like 65mph).There's play somewhere in the drive train.Check rear suspension too.Jack up back of car so wheels are off the ground,Have someone run the car through a couple gears and look under back of car for exactly where the noise may be.Also while back of car is off the ground w/car off put car in gear so the back wheels dont spin.Grab one of the wheels and rotate it back and forth from stop to stop and listen for any clunk noise. The wheel should turn less than an eighth from stop to stop.
