does all lights work, even head lamps and bright?
does the cluster display show a message as to why? most will.
does anything on the car work perfectly
if not charge the car battery, and start it.
or jumper cable start it.
or call AAA tow and ask them to start it.
the report what happens after that.

If this is a factory alarm try using the the key in the door lock and turning the door lock manually. I have seen this issue in chrysler models as well. If this does not work try replacing the batteries in the key fob as this will cause falfunctions as well.

shift interlock cable may be out adjustment or broken..you have to fcenter floor console around shifter..disconnect cable and move manually and see if key will come out..check cable attachment at shifter..there is an adjustment on this cable..pull up on lock on cable at shifter

Turn the wheel while turning the key will unlock the wheel wiggle the wheel while turning the key.

Most commonly it is the key is worn out. If you have a spare key or your current one is not too badly worn, have a copy of it made and try it in the switch. You will have to have the copy key "coded" so it will disable the anti-theft system in order for the engine to start. If the new key doesn't fix your problem, you will have to replace the tumbler assembly.
