Can you jumper the fuel pump and make it start and continue to run ? Have you checked to see if you are getting spark when it won't start ? Could be a relay or coil, ignition module, or other component.
You definitly have a timing problem. I dont think its a fuel problem due to the age of your car. Its about past due for a timing belt/chain replacement.
Make sure yu can hear your fuel pump run when you first turn on your key. If not check fuel pump fuse and relay for power. If your relay is working and your fuses are good it is most probably your fuel pump or fuel filter, the fuel filter is not expensive. If you can't hear it run and everythinng else checks out it is your pump! i hope this helps Merry christmas!
