When cruse is set, why does it not hold going down hill

02 civic. cruse not working. dash pwr turns on, cruse set makes display lamp on, pressing brake turns dash lamp off. is when engaged there is no speed maintained car slows and trans down shifts.

Your cruise control module under the hood. Works off a vacuum. It connects to you throttle. Eather a vacuum line is lose or has a hole or the vacuum boost that holds your throttle is bad

Yes, cruse control only controls engine functions, it does not control braking.

Put in some torque converter shutter fix. This stuff helps. Depends on how many miles though. Year make and model would help.

I have seen this problem and it is very often a problem with the engine wiring harness, where that may lie is anyones guess, look at places where the harness moves around allot.

check the rad hoses for softness, my guess is the lower hose is collasping under high flow

In cruse control, going down hill the jeep will loose all power. Usuall regains power except this last time. Had to pull over and put in park and restart. Jeep has 137,000 miles and has not had a tune up....

Throw a set of spark plugs in it. Unless you perform the basic needs for an engine, it will always let you know one way or another. before you know it, after neglecting the engines needs, your going to have a driveabilty problem that is going to be impossible to diagnose on this site.

What causes a 1998 grand caravan 3.3 liter to lose speed climbing a hill with the cruise set but it will hold the vehicle back going down a hill

you have higher torque need when pulling the vehicle up hill but less going down because it does not require as much power to hold your van back. Hope this helps

Cruise control only maintains speed by utilizing the accelerator. To speed up it increases it and during slowing is removes it. The cruise control will not apply brakes in the event of a steep downhill run. In this case the vehicle will start to accelerate in the same manner as if the cruise control was not engaged. But in theses cases, most cruise controls, once the speed exceeds a certain amount above the set speed, will auto-disengage as a safety feature.
