Car will run with regular or high test gas. Diesel fuel is another matter.

If you have gas in there check for spark, compression, air, and fuel delivery. Have feeling pump stopped working.

Your timing chain may need replaced.
Sounds like your plugs are sparking too late or too early.
or the gap is too big in your plugs. ( get a gapper and regap to .08 ish.. )
Try these

SOURCE: Gas tank over flows when filling up

There is a tube that run down into the tank inside the fill pipe, it vents air as the tank is filled, if it is blocked your problem occurs, most likely it is kinked.

SOURCE: 97 gtp turns over wont start..fuel pump runs enermidintly

yep i seen it in happen .i was at a gas station a guy drove car to the gas station on empty.he fill his tank up .could not get it to crank .some cars you have to restart fuel pump when run out of gas. like chrysler.you use a scanner. but chervrolet you run low over heat damage the pump.it has to stay submerge gas to keep it cool. check fuel pump pressure.it should be 41 - 47 psi.

SOURCE: fuel pump 2005 nissan altima

Take it back to where you had it serviced. They probably simply missed connecting the fuel level sensor. The engine light is probably from a missed emissions hose that goes to the gas tank.

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 S 4 cylinder - went to get gas (just a bit, did not fill up) on Christmas and soon afterward the 'service engine soon' light came on. Called the Nissan dealer

When last did you service the vehicle ?
did they use the proper fuel ?

Chances are the service time is near where you will need to do a basic service, Plug , plug wires, filters etc. And reset the counter.
the fuel ting is just a coincidence.

Ok so I bought a 2002 Nissan altima my husband drove it 15 miles filled up gas and drove approx 5 and it died - bad fuel pump.... We replaced the fuel pump but still having drive for awhile and die issues....

theres nothing wrong with the fuel pump..did you test the mass air floww sensor or have the egr valve replaced..it will save you trouble from keeping your 2002 nissan altima from dying out.

My ALTIMA WAS RUNNING AND THEN SHUT OFF, IT CRANKS BUT WONT START

Turn the key to on, and listen under the car to see if you can hear the fuel pump running. or you could take a rubber mallet and tap the bottom of the gas tank while someone is turning the ignition over. I would almost bet you have a faulty fuel pump.

97 nissan altima just started runs fine when cold when it gets warn it starts to spit and sputters giving it gas wont help, i checked plugs and there fine checked cap and rotor and they look good i even...

Sounds like plugged catalytic converter, Disconnect exhaust in front of Cat. and see what happens. Check to see if you are losing fluid from radiator.

I put diesl gas in my nissan altima... I drained

You are probably going to have to change the spark plugs. They could have gotten fouled out from the oil based fuel.

I have a 93 altima that will crank but will not start...about a couple months ago i went to my work and shut off my car. it was running fine when i shut it off.. when i came back out and started my car...

this year model is notorious for fuel related probs...check the remainder of the fuel system, injectors, and the fuel pressure regulator also verify that the fuel pump is actually running and getting the correct amount of power to the pump itself..... it may not be bad just not getting enough power
