Why the mssg board will not show but radio continues to play

I was cleaning my car and ran over the button of the radio with a cloth. When the keep is in the ignition and I click it over you can see the mssg board lit up, but once the car turns over, the mssg board disappears. The radio plays and the station are still the same, but the mssg board is blank. What did I do? 2005 Chevy Equinox

Are you using the original key that came with the car? The chip in that key may have gone bad. Try using the spare key that should have come with the purchase of the car. You may also be having battery issues. If all else fails....call the people who really know how to rape you...DUM Dum dummmmm....the dealer

SOURCE: ignition key will not turn on my 2005 chevy

Try turning your steering wheel hard to left or right while trying to turn the key and see if that resolves tour problem. Sometimes if you shut the engine off with the wheels turned the power steering will hold pressure against the steering lock mechanism.

Sounds to me like a bad connection on the battery. Take the terminals off the battery and clean both terminals (inside) . Use a scraper or some emery cloth. Also clean both battery posts.
Then see if the Head lights work.
If they don't work, you've probably got a dud battery.

2002 lesaber, tape player c/d combo. when playing tape it says clean player, so i did. tried to hold eject button for 5 seconds, didnt work. still says clean player... how do i make this go away? ...

Try disconnecting the battery negative and positive cables. The radio has a constant hot wire which keeps the memory alive on the radio. This constant wire always has power to the radio so you have to disconnect the (+) for at least 2 minutes, which should clear out the memory on the radio and hopefully it'll stop saying clean player. If it comes back on when you hook the battery back up then look up the radio brand and model number on line and do a search for a way to clear it from the radio.

The radio will not play tapes or except a cd adaptor. it keeps saying clean. it will not let us clean the heads. it keeps ejecting the tapes.

Have you got the code for the radio? If So, disconect it and leave it off for 30mins, re-connect it to the power supply and insert your code, this should reset the radio, failing that has anybody been playing with it, ie children, putting items in there that should not be there? Coins for example.

I have a 1989 Tbird with 'only' 6,700 miles. Completely new car, but radio will not play. The station (example: 98.9) displays all the time, (no clock/time displays). With scan button, the radio continues...

Over time the capacitors in the radio start to brake down. You might have to just take it out of the car and see how it looks inside of the radio. You might find the same one on ebay to keep the care stock. Good luck.

1993 Lincoln Town car -need to reset computer

The code on the inside of the trunk is for the keyless entry touch pad. The radio will require further diagnostics. Be sure to check all fuses for radio and amplifier. It should have a separate audio amplifier, they have been known to go bad, possibly what ran the battery dead to begin with.
