There is a known issue with the fuel pressure regulators leaking on these. You can find it on the front fuel real near where the throttle cables attach to the throttle body. You will see a small vacuum line coming out of the top. Remove the vacuum line and see if fuel comes out of the regulator. If it does replace it as soon as possible.

How come I have a bad smell when I start my 05 Pontiac Montana SV6 and heat won't kick in??

Any chance you have loose "fan" belts, they may be slipping and it smells like burning rubber? Or could be a bad coolant leak if the smell is like antifreeze, so not enough coolant to get to the heater coil. Have you checked your coolant level recently?
And perhaps all fluid levels need to be checked. Have you had it serviced by a competent well recommended Mechanic at the recommended service times?

2000 pontiac montana hesitates on starting

Sounds like a leaky fuel line somewhere and the pressure isn't strong enough to go through the fuel pressure regulator. Try to locate fuel leak by smell.

Smells gas after idling

The fuel pressure regulator may be bad and leaking gas on the intake manifold. It's a cylinder shape with a vacuum line and it's connected to the fuel injector rails. When the diaphragm goes bad in the regulator, gas will leak from it and on to the engine, which give you the smell of gas through out the car when it's running. Good luck and keep me posted, Auto Zone sell them for around $15.00 and that can give you the step by step instructions with common tolls and takes about 15 to replace.
