Does yours have ZR2 option.?
The automatic lamp control (ALC) system and the daytime running lamps (DRL) feature, except the Canadian version, can be temporarily disabled by performing the following procedure:

  1. Turn the ignition to RUN.
  2. Press the DOME OVERRIDE button 4 times within 6 seconds.
A chime will sound informing you that the system is off. The system will remain disabled until the ignition is cycled off and then on or by pressing the DOME OVERRIDE button 4 more times within 6 seconds. The chime will sound again signaling that the system has been reactivated.
What brain did you replace ? You people crack me up , trying to save money by doing it yourself . You have no idea of the complexity of the system . You could have taken to a Qualified repair shop an spent less . Why on earth do you thing this has anything to do with the truck shutting off ? An it could have been as easy as hooking up the Tech 2 factory scan tool . There are a number of DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes that could be set for the ALC .
DTC B2648
The body control module (BCM) monitors the courtesy lamp relay coil control circuit in order to determine if the daytime running lights (DRL) or the auto headlights (ALC) should be turned ON in the AUTO mode. When the BCM senses the ambient light sensor voltage is between 1.7 volts and 4.7 volts, the DRL will be commanded ON. When the BCM senses the ambient light sensor voltage is between 0.2 volts and 1.0 volts, the ALC will be commanded ON.
  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the ambient light sensor parameter in the Body Control Module (BCM) data list .
Does the scan tool indicate that the ambient light sensor parameter is within the specified range?
0.2-4.7 V
DTC B2647
The body control module (BCM) monitors the ambient light sensor signal circuit in order to determine if the daytime running lights (DRL) or the auto headlights (ALC) should be turned ON in the AUTO mode. When the BCM senses the ambient light sensor voltage is between 1.7 volts and 4.7 volts, the DRL will be commanded ON. When the BCM senses the ambient light sensor voltage between 0.2 volts and 1.0 volts, the ALC will be commanded ON.
DTC B1398
And , if it was the BCM - body control module you replace , It's no wonder the truck shuts off , Don't know if your aware of it , but that brain needs to be programmed .
Important: If the module is replaced, the module must be programmed prior to performing the Passlock Learn procedure.
  1. Ensure that the following conditions exist in order to prepare for BCM programming:
  2. ?€¢
    The battery is fully charged.

    ?€¢
The ignition switch is in the RUN position.

    ?€¢
    All accessories are turned OFF.

    ?€¢
All modules and devices are connected and functioning properly before programming.

  3. Follow the SPS instructions on the Techline Terminal and scan tool to program the BCM.
  4. If the BCM fails to accept the program, perform the following steps:
?€¢
Inspect all BCM connections.

?€¢
Verify that the SPS Techline Terminal and scan tool have the latest software version.

2001 GMC SONOMA overheated .. replaced radiator and water pump.. now at starting, the engine shakes a lot . after a few minutes , runs smooth ( normal) need help. any clues??

check to see if the wires are connected good to the mass air flow sensor located in the air filter hose assembly, its possible that when you replaced the water pump the connection was disconnected, making the truck run rough at start up and after warming up run a little smoother. I would also affect the acceleration going down the road.

My 2002 gmc sonoma (extended cab sls) will not start i have changed plugs and wires fuel pump and fuel filter i have done oil change and air filter change. the truck will fire if i give it a spray off...

My engine light in my 2002 GMC Sonoma has been on for the past four weeks. Yesterday I had an oil change done on my truck with a local mechanic. He turned the engine light off, but it came on soon after leaving his shop.
This morning I went to start my truck and there was NO power whatsoever. After repeatedly turning the key, I soon saw a slight movement on the battery display, but no lights would come on. It just seemed like it wasn't getting any power. I changed the battery two years ago, so it should be fine.
Eventually, the truck received full power and started, more less out of no where. It wouldn't hold an idle and would just die if i took my foot off the gas.
Hopefully someone has a solution for me.
Thanks.

  8. You can possibly do the above from underneath the vehicle, but not sure if starter will drop down.

2002 2500HD GMC - starts for 2 seconds and engine shuts down

It might be the anti-teft system. I am told, what you need to do is turn the key to ON without starting the truck. Leave it that way for 20 minutes. Then turn it off.

After you do that, try to start it.

The heater still won't work after I changed the thermostat on my

Get a female garden hose adapter from the local hardware store. Disconnect the heater hose from behind the fan pulley and attach the hose connection. Disconnect the other heater hose behind the alternator, aim it towards the ground and flush water through the heater core. This worked on my truck.
