2007 holden astra emission light has come on. Does this mean new fuel pump is needed?

yes safe to drive but you need to check out why it's on...oxygen sensor or other. Emission control not right or even may make a difference on economy.

its inside the fuel tank, there is a accsess above the pump the fuel gauge is also fitted to the pump. panel in the boot.

Not necessarily you need a code reader to find out what has caused light to come on.There are other factors that can cause light to elluminate. A fault code reader is required before a diagnosis can be made. There are phone apps that can read engine codes and bluetooth DLC plug ins to comunicate with your phone all very affordable. May save a lot of money in the long run.

If you used premium then changed to unleaded it might be a couse. But either way I won't worry about the light, your car will run just as find with it being on.

Service due light is "insp". It might be due for oil change or other service.

The fuel pump relay is located under the hood near the battery.
Usually in a black plastic box. There will be some fuses and other relays in as well. It should be marked fuel pump on or under the lid.
Good luck. Replace with same relay.
