I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo I6 4.0L. It has been sitting for about a year and a half and I tried to start it and it would crank, but not fire. I have been working on it for awhile now and there was no fire to the distributer, so I checked the coil, and nothing even going to the coil. I read on here most people saying this problem is due to a bad crankshaft position sensor, but I read that if the crankshaft position sensor was bad that the fuel pump would also not work. I put my head near the gas tank and had someone turn on the key and I could hear the fuel pump engage so I do not believe the problem is the crankshaft position sensor. Maybe the problem is in the computer?
*UPDATE*
I have tested the coil itself and it is working fine. So the problem is indeed before you get to the coil as it is not getting power, which leads me again back to the computer? A sensor other than the crankshaft position sensor?
I don't work on Jeeps, but the Rangers have a power relay for the ignition. You might want to try asking at Autozone or O'reillys if the Jeep has any relays. It might be worthwhile to check the fuse panel to see if something blew that might control 2 or 3 things including the ignition. Hope this helps you.

Problem has been solved. Mice chewed through my Crankshaft Position Sensor wire.
