starter is located at the driver side bottom of the engine; near firewall. left side wheel, driveshaft and exhaust needs to be removed to access it. not an easy job....
So I literally just had the same problem. I came out from church and my car would start. Everything seemed in order...it just wouldn't engage the starter. I tried everything until I went under the hood and began pulling fuses, it was the 20 amp 'horn stop' fuse was blown...I replaced it and immediately my alarm started going off...then blew the 20 amp I put in...replaced it with a 30amp and then disarmed with the key in the door...car started right up.
you can purchase a starter at an auto supply house like autozone, pepboys, etc... You can also purchase a Chilton's repair manual or some similar repair manual for the vehicle that will walk you through step by step at the supply house. When in doubt contact a professional auto mechanic.
Hope my advice helps please do not forget to rate/vote my advice.
my 96 2,5 tl starts when it wants 2 i got a new batt and the alt is good i makes a click sound around the area by the starter and if i get a jump i starts right up how do i go about changing the sterter without breaking that seal on the intake it sits up under
grantgga2: I don't think this is one you are going to want to try to change out.
It entails having to remove the left axle and part of the exhaust pipe to gain access to the starter. At that point, you have one bolt which goes in at the bottom from the starter side and bolts to the engine. The other bolt passes through the trans axle housing and bolts into the starter, pulling it up to the engine.
SCARED YA HUH? I'D SAY FROM A 1-10 FOR A WEEK END WARRIOR, IT WOULD BE ABOUT A 6.
Was I helpful?
