Sounds as if you need the electrical portion of the ignition switch. The contacts inside are most likely worn out.

i would suggest you contact a dealer and tell them what happened they may tell you to bring it in and that may be a good idea when it comes to these computerized vehicles it's not always a good idea to disconnect the positive cable to check to see if the alternator is faulty it may have caused another problem doing so. The best way to check for a charge is with a machine that detects the charging system is operational

I have replaced the altinator and battery in my '99 Maxima. The altinator is still not charging the battery.

Is there B+ voltage at the heavier wire on the back of the alternator ? . There should be B+ voltage at two more wire's connected to the alternator . What's the charge gauge showing ?

The 1997 nissan maxama has had 4 altanaters and 4 batterys.you can smell the batterys over charging. Does it have external rectifier if so where is it.

The voltage regulator and rectifiers are inside the alternator.
Grab a cheap multi-meter (even a $5 one is good enough for this) and check your voltage on the battery when the vehicle is idling. It should be around 14-14.5V. If it's 14.8 or more then your alternator's voltage regulator is not working correctly.

Why battery want hold charge

If the battery is new, and you know for a fact the alternator is charging the battery, you probably have something in the truck that is draining the battery with the key off.
Make sure the alternator is actually charging the battery by using a meter to test it, then you may have to start checking circuits for a drain.

Altinator is good tested fine battery new still not charging ?

If your alternator tested good and the battery is good, then the only other thing that would be involved is the battery cables. Did you clean the battery cables and battery terminals?

Killed then we jumped started it it went about 2 miles and killed again. we jump started it again, got it running as soon as we took the jumper cables off the running car it killed

if you have a bad altinator it will drain your battery causing the enguine to stop running. and if you killed the car that was jumping it then i def would get the altinator tested on both cars as jumping a car with a bad altinator can cause charging issues on the car doing the jumping.

I have a 1991 chevy truck 350 engine 4x4 with air it started back charging the battery so I change the alternator with a new one and now it does not charge now

make sure the old and new one is rated for the same rpm,and amp ratings. also knote if they have the internal regulator, or are externally regulated. where as the altinator may not have been over charging, but the regulator just may not have been doing its job correctly. also some altinators need whats called the (sense) wire hooked up correctly in order to operate.
