Fixing an 01 alero, but the only cars i can pull parts from are a 1999 and/or a 2000 alero. just need to know if a heater core and blower motor from the latter model year will fit the former... thanks

replace the bolwer motor relay mounted on the fire wall the relay is stuck in the on poition.

SOURCE: 1999 alero window tracking broke, need to know how to fix it

those little plastic pieces are the weak link of the assembly. You can't just replace them in this throw away society. I bought an aftermarket window regulator on E-bay for around $40.00 and it works fine 3 years later. Do a search for Alero window regulators . It is not a hard job to install either. Good luck

check blower motor relay but it sound like blower motor control switch is bad.

SOURCE: 2003 Alero, heater blower only works on the two highest position?

The blower motor is located on the passenger side of the vehicle next to the blower motor. Run the fan on high and listen for the blower motor location if in question. The resistor will be mounted into the heater case and held in by two screws.

ASKING WHAT?, A WILD GUESS OR DOING TESTS WITH TOOLS?

IS THE HVAC, (HEATER..COOLER) CONTROLS THE AUTOMATIC OR MANUAL VERSION, NOT TOLD
NO CAB HEAT?
BLOWER DEAD ON HIGH OR ONLY DEAD (SILENT) NOT ON HIGH.?
ENGINE TEMP AT 180F TO 200F? (THERMOSTAT MISSING OR STUCK OPEN) I USE AN IR GUN TEMP METER.
THE HEATER CORE AS 2 TUBES. (HOSES) from engine coolant loop to the CAB core,(using same gun)
both tubes 180f up is good , if one is at very low temp that means it is clogged, (core packed up.) some cars have water valve here dead.
ok both tubes hot ,170f us good, I point my IR gun to metal pipe part for the best readings.
ok core is hot, heater core and the problem is CAP HEATER AIR DISTRIBUTION FAILURES.
2 CAUSES, CONTROLS BAD, OR THE DAMPER ACTUATORS ARE BAD. FOR SURE BLEND DOOR. STUCK LOSED RENDERING THE HEATER CORE USELESS.

A TECH USES THE OBD2 SCAN TOO, AND READS THE ETC PID LIVE DATA CAR HOT AND RUNNING,
2005 THERMOSTATS ARE MOSTLY NO GOOD.
I'D NOT TRUST MY ENGINES WITH ONE THAT OLD.17YO
THE LIVE ECT DATA MUST BE 180F UP, NOT BELOW EVER.
IF BELOW THE THERMOSTAT IS NO GOOD.,MISSING OR ONE OF THOSE FUNKY, FAIL SAFE THERMOSTATS INSTALLED AND IS BAD.

I USE THIS. AND SCAN TOOL BOTH. TO FIND CAUSE.

THE SERVICE MANUAL COVERS THE DAMPER TESTS.
WHAT i DO AND THE BOOK TELLS US.
IT HAS ME WATCH THE BLEND MOTOR WORK
the steps are , this in generic format.
gain access to all damper motor actuators
glove box pulled ,kick panels pulled.
now turn the knobs on the heater controls
try hot and cold and the blend door must move from end to end.
if not the motor is bad, or the controls are dead.
the mode motor (recirc/fresh) and vent motor selectors

if blower is heard on high but not lower speed, the resistor block is blown out. if climate controls is here, then the blower controller is bad or the blower motor is dead, we hot wires blowers in place to test them.
this this is the short version, of how.

the MACRO answer is.
engine coolant never gets hot, fix it.
heater core is not hot, (clogged fix it)
air distribution is failing so test dampers or fix dead blower.

I have a 2001 alero oldsmobile. I replaced the blower knob, the blower motor an resistor an still my blower knob does not work at all please help!!!

alero's had a persistant problem of ac condesate building up inside heater box and rusting the blower drive motor shaft to the point it wont turn anymore id get a look at this first. if fan wont spin free with your fingers all them other parts arnt going to help you

Car smells like its burning

the bearing in the blower motor is going out causing the noise and the smell is coming from the blower motor. the parts house will give you the right blower motor for your vehicle make and model and engine size.

A little heat is coming out of the vents in my 2001 oldsmobile alero but its not blowing out

Could be a problem with the blower motor, or a blend door.
The blend doors direct air thru the heater core and out thru the vents.
Someone would need to remove the blower motor and check it.

I dont know what these other guys are saying..I think they snif the glue!!! YOUR BLOWER FAN ASSEMBLY CAN EASILY BE REMOVED !!
1. Remove the wire
2.Find the "tab on the housing and pull it down while rotating the fan housing counter clockwise. This will remove the fan assembly. Plage 12 volts on the contacts to test the motor. If it works then the resister pack is blown. On the fan housing (near firewall ) you will see a plug going into a square looking box with a screw in it. Remove the wire then remove the screw to remove the resistor pack.. A new resistor pack is around 20 dollars at a ford dealer. Hope thie "FREE" info helps!

Heater blower motor repair need to know how to repair or troubleshoot heater core works but doesnt blow heat into car

First check all your fuses. If you have power to the blower motor and it is not working then you are probably going to have pull the blower motor. This usually involves pulling a large portion of the dash. I recommend you buy a Haynes manual from autozone (approximately $20) for guidance.

Aircondition blows hot air on normal but blows cold air on max

The temp blend door rotates between allowing heat through the heater core, or cold air through the a/cevaporator, or a blending of the 2 by being anywhere between the two.

I would check the heater a/c control head first and hope it's just the control head.

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION A/C-Heater System, Manual The manual air conditioning/heater system used in these vehicles is a split-case, blend air design. This design includes the following major components:
  • An A/C evaporator housing (19850) which is attached to the engine compartment side of the dash panel (01610). This assembly includes: (1) the A/C evaporator core (19860), (2) the suction accumulator/drier (19C836), (3) the A/C cycling switch (19E561), (4) an internal, A/C evaporator core orifice (19D990) located inside the inlet line to the A/C evaporator core, (5) a blower motor (18527), (6) a blower motor wheel (18504), (7) a heater blower motor switch resistor (18591), and (8) the A/C evaporator case (19897).
  • A heater air plenum chamber (18471) which attaches to the passenger compartment side of the dash panel. This assembly includes: (1) the outside/recirculating air inlet door, (2) the panel door, (3) the floor defrost door, (4) the temperature blend door, and (5) the heater core (18476).
  • Other components which link and/or control the heating and air conditioning systems include: (1) the A/C control (19980), (2) the ducts and registers, (3) the windshield defroster hose nozzle (18490), (4) the control cables, (5) the vacuum lines, (6) the refrigerant tubes and hoses, (7) the A/C compressor (19703), and (8) the A/C condenser core (19712).

The A/C control (19980) assembly consists of three main parts:
  • The function selector knob, a vacuum selector valve combined with an internal electrical switch.
  • Heater blower motor switch (18578), an electrical switch that provides four speeds of A/C blower motor operation.
  • A temperature control knob, which controls the position of the temperature blend door mounted on A/C evaporator housing (19850) assembly.

Temperature Control
The temperature selector actuates a variable resistance switch. This switch varies the voltage to an electric actuator used to position the temperature blend door. Positioning the temperature control in any position between COOL and WARM causes the temperature blend door to direct more or less outside air through or around the heater core (18476) for whatever proportion of heated or unheated outside air is desired. The air blends together as it leaves the heater core and enters the heater air plenum chamber (18471) for distribution.

System Airflow Description Air is drawn into the system by the blower motor (18527) through the outside-recirc. door opening. The air is blown through the A/C evaporator core (19860) and then the heater core (18476) (when the temperature control is moved toward the WARM position). When the temperature blend door is in the maximum COOL position, the air bypasses the heater core. When the temperature control is moved to the right, away from the maximum COOL position, air passes through the heater core where it is warmed, and then mixed with the cool air before it is discharged through the registers. OFF
With the function selector in the OFF position, the outside-recirc. door is in the recirculated air position. It is closed to outside air and no air passes through the system. The blower motor is off. MAX A/C
NOTE: No temperature modulation is possible in the MAX A/C position.

In the MAX A/C position, the outside-recirc. air door is in the recirculated air position. All of the air discharges through the panel registers except for a small amount of floor bleed. The A/C compressor (19703) operates in this function control setting.

You have to almost remove the dash to get this part out.
Removal
  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  1. NOTE: Refer to Section 01-12 for instrument panel removal and installation procedure.

    Loosen instrument panel (04320) and pull back from cowl.
  1. Remove A/C electronic door actuator motor electrical connector from bracket on A/C evaporator housing.
  1. Remove three A/C electronic door actuator motor retaining screws.
  1. NOTE: The mounting bracket remains in place on the A/C evaporator housing.

    Lift A/C electronic door actuator motor vertically approximately 12mm (1/2 inch) to disengage it from bracket and actuator shaft, then pull A/C electronic door actuator motor back toward passenger compartment.

MY CAR WONT BLOW HEAT

The problem is A small device that is called A (blend door actuator )it is located on side of heater core under the dash its A small white box with wires coming out of it .it opens the valve so coolant can run through the heater core.
you can open it manualy with ascerw driver by pushing the temerature control door shaft that is located behind it up.this is only temprerary fix until you replace this part.
