I read the codes on my 97 land cruiser and had the pO510. I replaced the TPS with a new one as instructed and still won't start. Any suggestions?

It started during a long drive and at stop lights while in gear it would idle at 350 to 400 RPM. A few trips later and hard starting, it wont run now

Test for a bad crank position sensor. An automatic idle control valve most likely is gummed up and needs to be cleaned too.

    Hi Lawrence,

Thanks for the info I am guessing that the idle air flow valve could be the issue. how hard is this to get cleaned? do I need to remove the entire top end to get to it? Throttle body? Intake? I'm an old ford guy and know nothing about these yota's. One thing I also noticed is I do not hear the fuel pump turn on when I turn on the ignition. I also do not know where the fuel rail pressure test fitting is to see if there is any fuel pressure. I can hear and feel the EFI relay in the fuse/relay box under the hood actuate and click when the key is turned on. Could the fuel pump be the issue? I hate getting through hundreds of dollars chasing a problem one part at a time. I did test the old TPS and it was bad so replacing it was necessary. Looking forward to hearing back! Happy Holiday and thank again for your help!

Use a code reader to get any other codes after you replaced the TPShttp://www.autozone.com/repairinfo/repai...

VSC light flashing on land cruiser 200 series

have you had the OBD codes read ? if not could well be code(s) P0440 P0441 P0442 P0443 P0446 and a few others ,these refer to the Evaperation control system , one easy thing to try is make sure the gas tank cap is securely tightened turning so a couple of clicks are heard , this may cure the light coming on if not will need the codes reading and further investigation keep me updated if you wish

What should it cost to replace a heater core in a 1997 Land Cruiser

varies by series and what is used in your country, HVAC setups are not a world wide constant , nor are parts costs or labor.
why not diagnosis it.??????
1: is engine coolant NOT at 180F, (scan it or pyro gun it) dead simple
if car has a core water valve it must be open and flowing.
2: blow fan is dead, (on high must work)
3: air flow through core is not flowing.

if the core is back flushed, like it should be ever 2years then its
not packed up, remove hoses back flush it. does it flow
yes, good, its not bad (if not leaking incab)
no, its packed up, so blast it some more with a water hose.
now its fixed. simple huh and not removing it.
now #3
all above is good but #3
air flow, so move all the damper by hand , got heat now?
if yes, you just discovered why. bad damper controls'
the FSM covers in details how , for damper. read it.
in usa its also at alldata.com read it. read the damper sections .

Fast idle land rover discovery

I had the same problem on my 96 Discovery. It turns out, if the low end of the new TPS reads even a little bit higher than the old TPS, then the engine will rev high. It can be reset at LR dealership to map the new TPS, or you can hog out the screw holes on the new TPS and turn it clockwise until it reads as low or lower than the old TPS, or you can try cleaning the old TPS and reinstalling it. I was able to fix it by rotating, but I also was able to read the TPS signal at the OBD2 diagnostic port.

I did something stupid. ('97 Landcruiser) Picked up the wrong battery (reversed poles) and installed; fried fusible link; replaced that, now starts and runs fine but w/s wipers don't work at all, nor the...

Definetively you have some short there; I suggest check and re-check the wiring and harnesses connectors. The next electricla short could damage other device more interesting (click in the image for zoom).

I don't have the security code for radio on my 97 land cruiser. How can I resolve this problem. Thanks

You have to go to your local Toyota dealership with proof of ownership of the vehicel. Once that is proven they will be more than happy to issue you the security code for your vehicle. If you do not take your vehicle with you, make sure you at least have the vin number as they will need it to get your code.

DOES THE SCAN CODE 0510 IS RELATED TO THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR?

Code PO510 commonly refers to a defective Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). But before you go replacing it check all the wiring. Make sure everything is tight and connected. Check for a wire touching metal and shorting out. Check the ground wire and see if it shares a ground with the coolant sensor or another sensor. That other sensor may be the problem and not the TPS, if it is defective and not providing a good ground

Differetial locks for 94 land cruiser

91-97 Land Cruisers had a factory option for front and rear locking differentials. This is a seperate switch and is usually located to the left of US model Land Cruisers. The center dash button locks your transfer case differential changing your Land Cruiser from all wheel drive to four wheel drive depending if you have ABS or not this button either says ECT or Center Dif Lock. If you do not have the Front/Rear locking differential option then your Land Cruiser has open Front and Rear. Hope this answers your question.
