My transmission in my 1989 chevy c1500 will not go into reverse. It is an automatic 4 speed transmission. All other gears work fine with no slippage or anything but when in reverse it will start to roll...

It's a problem in the transmission. Most likely a snap ring has broke. This ring keeps the clutches compressed and in position. Problem is you have to pull the transmission and disassemble the entire inside of it to get to the ring.

Looking to find out what kind of 5 speed trans i have in my 93 chevy 1500 with a 4.3 engine

You need to locate the RPO (regular productiin option) sticker it has a list or 3 didget aplhanumeric codes on it. One code is for the tranny and it should be the only code starting with "M". Transmission codes on a 93307 c1500 4.3 2wd range from M01-M99 and MA1-MY1. You can eather google the code once you have it or send it to me and i can help you find it. The sticker is going to be in driver door jam, glovebox, or under the hood.

This is a truck not a fwd automatic car.If you dont know then dont answer questions!Flat ground take top plug on side of tranny out and fill till it comes back out with 75w90 or 80w140(depending hot/cold climate)You will need a Special removal tool(huge allen wrench type for the drain and fill plugs on right/passenger side of tranny)

Speedometer doesnt work

This could only be a few different things. The speedometer itself, the speed sensor usually on the transmission, a fuse or a loose wire running to the guage. start by checking out these things.

My son's 93 GMC SIERRA G/T 5.7 C1500 transmission has started slipping when upshifting. It shifts fine if you let off the gas a little. It also slips in drive & overdrive when you give it gas to...

the transmission was made to last 10 years of average driving. if it has not been rebuilt at least once already, it has more than done its job. yes they do not need to take it apart to know it needs rebuilt, and just maybe they have seen a couple thousand just like it.

1988 chevy c1500 problem with second gear

be 1988 and Im sure it has high miles, sound like worn transmission, transmission flush and replace it with new fluid might help some. get use tranny from a junk yard better and cost lot less than rebuilt. being GM mechanic for many years i see transmission on a truck with 100k tend to have leaks or need rebuilding. again i see some have better luck but rear.

I have a 93 Chevy Suburban 1500 and the Transmission won't shift into any gear. I have an 1983 Chevy Suburban Transmission that is still good. Can I use the 83 Transmission in my 93 Suburban?

Not without a little adapting. The 1993 has a 4l60e which is electronically controlled and has shift solenoids. If the 83 is an overdrive it is a 700r4 which is the same trans but not electronic. If you put it in the speedo wont work and you will need to install a T.V. cable so the transmission will shift. The 93 won't go forward or backwards?

Electric transmission

Hi. I have a '93 Chevy Suburban that is on the 3rd transmission. What you probably have is the earlier 700R4 transmission. What you should have is the 4L60E. I have done ALOT of research on these transmissions, and what I've found out is this: the 4L60E is essentially the same as the 700R4, with the exception that the 4L60E is completely controlled by the vehicle's computer. The 700R4 uses a more antiquated valve body with a TV (throttle valve) cable. In theory, you could use the 700R4 if you connect the TV cable and properly adjust it. If it's a 4X4, your speed sensor is in the transfer case, so that wouldn't be an issue. The 4L60E used in '93 and '94 will only work in those model year vehicles, because of the type of shift solenoids used. The newer units used pulse width modulation solenoids, as opposed to the older on/off solenoids. I have run my truck with the transmission unplugged and the engine still runs fine. The major problem with using the earlier 700R4as opposed to the correct 4L60E, would be emissions compliance. If you want to discuss this further, email me at [email protected]
