Rear end oil capacity and type of rear end oil for '02 chevy 1500

Find a 90 weight gear oil from your local auto supply store. It's thicker then your conventional motor oil.

Why would you want to know this? If you have drained the unit, use a pump bottle and fill until it just begins to come out of fill hole. Full is even with bottom of the hole. Note: use good quality gear oil for longest life.

You can use any good quality 90w oil/grease

The Ford recomended fluid is:

Motorcraft SAE

75W-140 Synthetic

Rear Axle

Lubricant
All 3.3L (6.9 pints)

7 quarts for most models but to make shure you can call autozone and they can tell you for shure but all of my 5.7 engines in my chevy trucks take 7 quarts

Rear End 2.8L of GL-5 Gear Oil

Manual Trans 2.4L of 75W90 or GL-5 Gear oil.

Hello my name is Ben. For your truck you will use SAE 75W90 synthetic gear oil in the rear.

The recomended gear oil is 75w90 synthetic. However the capacities
increase with the size of the rear end.
8.6" 2.15qt (2.0L)
10.5+9.5" 2.75QT (2.6L)
9.75" 3QT (2.8L)
11.5" 3.17QT (3.6L)
