I can't replace the serpentine belt on my 1996 chevy cavalier. I know which way it goes but cant get it on due to the tension. I have loosened the tensioner but still cant get the belt over the last pulley. Can someone help me with this?

looking at diagram 2.2l engine to remove belt tensioner held in place by two bolts dont remove center bolt to tensioner just the two side mounting bolts one on each side.
It's pretty easy take the serpenten belt off if it has a motor mount on top of the serpenten belt you will have to jack up on the motor on the right side to releive the pressure on the mount remove the mount and tensioner should be a 13 or 15 millimeter bolt remove install new one put serpentine belt on then motor mount good to go thanks.
U do not loosen any bolts to adjust tension.tighten all bolts first. Then with a 3/8 ratecht in the slot of the belt tensioner rotate the tensioner until you can install the belt correctly.then release the tensioner and take out the ratchet.
Diagram should be under the hood
The auto tensioneris down low and dificult to get to.
If it has not been changed in a while you will need a long thin push stick and a serpentine tool.
Push on the belt hard at the auto adjuster and pop the belt off the smooth pully (located top).
hook up the serpentine belt tool and then mount the new belt
try using a 3/8 drive ratchet & a cheater pipe over ratchet handle for leverage.make sure its on good if it slips your in for a knuckle buster. good luck
To replace the belt push (rotate) the belt tensioner and remove the belt. Use a 15mm socket on the 4-cyl. engines and a
