Can this be done by a DIY person? I have heard that I have to remove the intake manifold to accomplish this task. Is that true?
I just changed the plugs (and one COP coil) on my 2002 Escape V6. Yes, you have to remove the upper intake to get to the 3 plugs on the rear bank. It's not very difficult. The o-ring -like gasket set is about $10 from Autozone.
Never heard of such a thing. Open the hood you should see some wires 4, 6 or 8, trace these to the motor. These wires should be going down into the engine. Using a boot removing tool, remove one boot and a plug at a time. Purchase the plugs before hand, also purchase some anti seizing compound which is applied to the plug when you install them, and some dielectric grease to place down into the spark plug boot. Then go to 2d plug, ect, ect.
