OP bought a new /used trans.
end story.
my guess you are in europe asking for help
on a USA forum. the country with no WG jeeps.
ours is WJ, jeep and is all GAS (petrol)
why ask the blind questions and double blind no WG here.
but generic answer can work if super lucky.
this can happen, the transmission all have an
ATF oilcooler (liquid to liquid heat ex-changer it is)
are cooler is in the Engine RAD.
if you let the coolant go acidic. this happens. running old coolant for 12 years. yah. like for sure...
the rad is under 12-14psi pressure.
this can in fact, force that nasty old coolant to the transmission.
and huge damage can happen. atf looks like milk. if not you are ok, (luck happens)
yes, full flush the box now.
draining it out gets say 3 quarts, and is useless here, full flush it and pray
just like all do , in this situation.
flush and pray.
hope you get lucky.
OK USA many thanks from UK owner new to Jeep technical aspects. I can pick up a used / reconditioned gearbox for less than it will cost to try and salvage the present unit and have a very quick turnaround so that's way I'm going to go, many thanks for your time pal.
Again many thanks Juriy but like I said earlier I have located and ordered a recon unit and oil cooler as I feel this is the safe option with, hopefully, no come back. I love the Jeep which is for me the best 4 x 4 on the UK market for the price, you get a whole lot for your money.
