My 2005 Kia Spectra Speedometer/Odometer/cruise control stops working at about 7 miles of drive time. The following are other issues that may or may not be contributing to the problem: The illuminated light around the heater control constantly flashes on and off. The aftermarket alarm system stops working intermittently. The passenger door, driver side, stopped opening and then was fine about 2 months later.

Probably bad vss (vehicle speed sensor). No Cruise operation without speed sensor input to engine control module.

SOURCE: buzzing in door every time

I have an 04 Sorento and what I did was unscrew the switch in the door jamb (the one that is compressed when the door is shut) which is held on by one screw. Next disconnect the plug from the back of the switch. Voila. No more annoying buzzing when listening to the radio with the door open. Also, since the car thinks the door is shut, when you park and remove the key and forget to roll up the windows, you will have about 30 seconds to adjust / open / close any and all windows. That is, as long as no one else has opened their door. ***Caution: ALWAYS CARRY A SPARE KEY WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES SINCE IT IS EASY TO LOCK KEYS IN THE CAR. NORMALLY DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WITH KEYS IN THE IGNITION, BUT THEY WILL AFTER YOU MAKE THIS MODIFICATION. Definately worth it. Get a hide a key or hide extra key in the running board. Then you will only need a phillips screwdriver to get to it.

The battery for the keyless entry keychain can be replaced at the jewelry counter at your local department store or a real jewelry shop. It is not generally too expensive and it will continue to
operate your vehicle's locks and alarms even if it has been dead for some time.

2004 Saturn Vue odometer and speedometer occasionally not working

Speedometer
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed based on the information from the body control module (BCM). The engine control module (ECM) calculates the vehicle speed based on the controller area network (CAN) serial data message indicating the wheel reference speed from the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The ECM sends a CAN serial data message to the BCM indicating the vehicle speed. The BCM sends a class 2 message to the IPC indicating the vehicle speed.
The speedometer defaults to 0 km/h (0 mph) when any of the following occur:
• The EBCM detects a malfunction in the vehicle speed sensor circuit.
• The ECM detects a loss of CAN communications with the EBCM.
• The BCM detects a loss of CAN communications with the ECM.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the BCM.

Having the vehicle scanned for codes would probably point you in a correct diagnostic direction .

Transmission speed sensor

You could have a faulty speedometer/odometer combination meter causing a false Vehicle Speed Sensor error.
My 1998 Sienna had the following symptoms:
- Speedometer and odometer failed intermittently
- The check engine light would come on and I would get a p0500 code in the OBDII.
- The cruise control would stop working at the same time the speedometer failed.
There is a speed sensor in each one of the tires and they feed the speed information to the ABS ECU. From the ABS ECU the speed signal goes to the speedometer/odometer combination meter, and from there it goes to the Engine Control Module and to the Cruise Control ECU. I could see a signal coming into the speedometer/odometer, but no signal going out. Replacing the speedometer/odometer combination meter fixed the problem.

Speedf odometer moving slow while driving stop working

Next time you start driving and it does not work see if the cruise control and odometer work. Also is the check engine light on?

With no check engine light on, the speed sensor and wiring is ok. You have a bad speedometer. if you try the cruise control I bet it works. Keep in mind that the speedometer would not be repairable by a mechanic. You would have to send it out for repair if you could even find a speedometer repair shop anymore. It will need to be replaced by a new one or used if you can find one in a salvage yard.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

2005 kia spectra speedometer and odometer not working, no codes, everything else functions and car drives fine any sugestions on how to troubleshoot.

Sounds like a bad speedometer sensor. Usually located on the transmission. The only way to fix the speedometer/odometer is to replace the sensor.

It is most likely the speed sensor in the transmission.

Kia Spectra Speedometer not working

Two possible fixes. Replace speed sensor. If this does not fix the problem take it to your Kia dealer. There is a common problem in the wiring inside the engine compartment fuse box. They can fix it with labor only. Usually runs about $200.
