Where are the fill and drain plugs located for the transmission. I want to check the fluid level and possible drain and fill the transmission fluid. It's around 100,000 miles.
It is hard to be specific....some plugs have a bolt head, some others a square indentation.....they will be the only bolts not holding something in place....It is hard to be specific....some plugs have a bolt head, some others a square indentation.....they will be the only bolts not holding something in place....

Why do you want to add it? Wipe the dipstick on clean white paper towel or cloth. If there are no leaks and the colour is still fairly bright it should be ok. If there are no leaks and the transmission is slipping it needs to go to a dealer or tranny shop.
If you have an Automatic transmission. Lift the hood. Locate the Transmission dip stick. Start the engine and let the engine warm up some. then check the fliud level on the dip stick. On a Manual Transmission, locate the transmission under the vehicle and the fill plug (upper) and drain plug (lower) on the transmission. Remove the fill plug (upper) and see if fluid runs out. If no fluid runs out, add recommeded transission fluid until the fluid starts running out, the replace fill plug..
DONT HAVE ONE WHERE DIP STICK USE TO BE IS A RED VENT FILL CAP THATS WHERE YOU POUR TRANSMISSION FLUID. BUT THE TRANSMISSION WAS MADE FOR DEALERSHIP TO CHECK.THEY HAVE TO RAISE VECHICLE LEVEL AND ON THE TRANSAXLE HOUSING THERE IS A CHECK PLUG ITS LOCATION ITS ABOVE THE OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG.WITH VECHICLE RUNNING UP IN AIR LEVEL ON THE LIFT.THE CHECK PLUG IS REMOVED IF NO FLUID COMES OUT CHECK PLUG HOLE ADD PINT DONT OVERFILL.IF FLUID POUR TOO MUCH FLUID IN TRANSMISSION IF SLOW DRIP FLUID LEVEL CORRECT.
On transmission pan drain plug will have a small hex screw in the center of drain plug, with engine running and in park remove little center screw, if fluid comes out, transmission level is good, of no fluid come out, will have to pump fluid in that same little plug hole, till fluid starts to come out.
The tranny fluid is added through the tranny dipstick (make sure it's not the oil dipstick). Fluid color should be red and the dipstick should have instructions on how to check level (car in park, engine at idle). Funnels are your friend here.
It's check at the transmission pan, there is two drain plugs, the lower one is to drain transmission fluid, the higher one is to check level, with engine running and in park remove up most drain plug if fluid start to come out level is ok, if no fluid coming out will need to add some till it start to come out.
Auto Trans.and manual Rodeo has no dipstick. Fluid levels must be checked from underneath the vehicle on a lift at the shop. It can only be filled from underneath the vehicle as well.
Unfortunatly you cannot check the transmission, or add fluid yourself. You have to take it to a dealer, or a transmission specialist.
That's not strictly true. The Trooper uses a GM "closed" transmission system. Its possible to do it yourself, but a real pain and requires some kind of pump system to pump in the fluid from below the vehicle. There are 2 filling bolts on the transmission pan, the lower one is the drain, the higher one towards the pan corner is the fill/level plug. You must remove the fill plug and pump fluid into it until it starts to run back out. Run the engine to distribute and warm the fluid, then check the level again, topping up if necessary. Replace the plug using new seal.
