And I told you yesterday that it was likely the ICM because GM 3800 motors have that as a common fault. They get hot and go bad. Doesn't help that on most of them mount directly above the water pump with no real heatsink. If your computer stops sending a spark signal to a cylinder (which is what the ICM does), you'll still get a fuel spray but it won't get burned. That's why it's running rich.

Take it to a qualified repair shop ! Told you yesterday a rich code would not cause your problem . I also told you it could be ICM - ignition control module , or maybe a crankshaft position sensor . I have over thrity years GM experience , Chevy , Cadillac , Pontiac , Oldsmobile . Buick etc..... So you should let a professional fix it .

My 2004 3800 series pontiac bonneville will start up fine and idle fine but seems like when it gets warm it shuts off?

P0172 is a rich condition > I dough it would cause it to shut off after it warms up . If real rich , it would cause a no start at all . Fouled spark plugs , you can pull the spark plugs to see if they are black or wet with fuel . Starting and running till warm then shutting off is a classic sign of an electronic component starting to fail . Does it start right back up or do you need to wait till it cools down ? If it doesn't start right back up , pull the two plug wires off the same coil and have someone crank it over . Is there spark ? If not , probably ICM - ignition control module is bad . There are videos on youtube on how to test GM DIS ignition systems . (distributor less ignition systems )

04 grand prix shuts off

My 04 Grand Prix was doing the same thing. Not sure if what I found was the reason for it, but I removed the air filter portion of the intake, reached into the intake a little pulling the throttle plate down. It was caked in carbon build up. With a lint free rag and some throttle body cleaner, I scrubbed the plate and since have not had anymore issues with the car not starting. Hope this helps anyone.
