1997 XK8 Transmission Failure. Will 2001 XK8 transmission work

I have a 1997 XK8. Transmission slips in forward gear. In reverse it backs up in a strained crawl. When foot is removed from accellerator, car abruptly stops as if transmission in 2 different gears at same time. Will a 2001 XK8 transmission interchange with the 1997? I have found several things that will interchange and several things that will not.

I had a similar problem with my 1997 XK8. Apparently the transmission will not last much more than 100,000 miles. You need to replace the clutch in the transmission - cost between $2,500 and $4,000.

Starting in about the mid 1980's automatic transmissions changed from fluid shifting to electronic shifting. In other words, your shift is by an electronic solenoid controlled by the computer. There is no Shift cable gong to the transmission. Just wires. You need to look for a loose or dirty electronic connection to the transmission.

What causes Jimmy transmission to slip in forward gears, but OK in reverse

If your fluid level is right you may have a bad transmission. you need to talk to a mechanic.

Transmission

Check transmission fluid level Almost all transmission slip problems originate from not enough fluid

V70 poured new Dex3 auto trans in. Reverse gear stops working after a few days equal 500km, but all forward are still ok.

Sounds like your transmission is going bad. If your transmission is slipping only in drive or forward gears, then it could be just that it is low on fluid, but when reverse starts to slip it usually means rebuild/replace transmission.

Good luck

check for any electric switches on or around your shifter . but the slipping worries me its hard to say your interpretation of slipping and mine are probably very different

My transmission on my 2001 odyssey is not working. all gears forward and reverse the transmission just slips what do i do ....

You might try changing fluid & filter. If that doesn't cure it, then it's off to dealer or a transmission shop.
