One advantage us dealer tech's have over a week end warrior is that we have factory service repair information and have factory scan tool ,Tech 2 , to check data coming into the instrument cluster . Most of you probably don't even think about how that coolant temp infor shows up on the gauge , except by a coolant sensor !

High Temperature Indicator
The high temperature Indicator function handles the control of the Engine Temperature Gauge Display and the red High Temperature indicator. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) reads the Coolant Temperature Sensor, filters the messages, and sends the coolant temperature to the instrument cluster via a Class 2 serial data message. The PCM monitors the coolant sensor in order to determine a fault. The PCM transmits the Class 2 serial data coolant temperature report messages to the instrument cluster for the temperature gauge display and for the high temperature indicator control.
The instrument cluster receives the engine temperature data in the Class 2 serial data message from the PCM. The instrument cluster converts this data into a temperature gauge pointer position which drives the gauge pointer. The instrument cluster also uses this data in order to determine the high temperature indicator control.
The Body Control Module (BCM) looks for the high temperature indicator Class 2 serial data report from the instrument cluster and triggers a chime when the indicator is ON.

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop , rather then just replacing parts .

Good day, fuel gauge from chevrolet alero 1999(oldmobile) is not working, pointer is standing in the right on 1200 hours

Please check if the rheostat within the fuel tank is working. You will have to disconect and shor the line to see if the guage is working. If so the rheosat must be faulty.
Check to see if anyline are opened in the dash board cluster

1990 silouette 3.1 v-6 looking for the temp switch, replaced temp sensor, fan relay and fan ( fan tests good and runs independently) still won't come on. Temp gauge is jumpy and showing 240-260. replaced...

hey if it was constantly running at these temps you would dhave definately damaged the engine by now. the temp guage is integrated with the instrument cluster and not replaaceable unless the whole guage cluster is replaced. you could go to a professional installer and have an aftermarket temp guage installed. much cheaper than having your instrument pannel replaced. in addition to the instrument pannel being replaced the odometer millage must be programed into the new pannel. if the fans are not turning on the engine more than likely is not getting hot enough to turn them on. but just to be sure i would take the vehicle to a automotive diagnostic specialist to make sure the ecm (electronic control module) is performing correctly. it may not be sending the signal to the fan relay to turn the fan/ fans on. you may also have a faulty temp sending unit. good luck. Cooling fans will not run

Yes, but it gets it's signsl from the temp sensor for the emissions system, not the one from the temp guage sensor. It could also be a fuse or relay.

My 1999 Oldsmobile Alero Gas gauge and fuel system

well # 1 the full gauge when empty is a sign that your fuel pump is bad and that needs to be replaced the part about spitting the gas back out is probrobly a clog between the fuel door and the tank itself or their might be a vapor lock door that might be stuck shut so fuel cant get in im not 100%sure about that but im 100%sure that the fuel guage is the fuel pump being dead.
