I'm not sure without testing , it's something that could cause your problem .Without a trained professional doing testing with the vehicle that's all anyone on here can do , make suggestions. 'Cranking' is purely the engine turning over. It cranks, almost starts and then it does nothing next time you turn the key? Flat battery.
Or, you turn the key, it cranks, fires and almost starts and then dies? More reasons for that scenario. Check for diagnostic trouble codes. Did you disconnect the battery when you replaced the fuel pump? Did it work after that? Does it have an engine immobilizer and did you reset it after the disconnect?
Possible bad fuel pump. Have someone crank the engine while rapidly hitting the bottom of the fuel tank with your fist agressively. You can also use a hammer and hit the tank using the flat of the hammer head while the engine is being cranked. If it starts or tries to start, suspect a bad fuel pump
Check for gas or spark problem on the engine. Check that starting fluid does start the car for a few seconds before dying, indicating a fuel delivery problem, like a fuel pump or circuit to it.
If the car won't start with starting fluid sprayed into the intake, then the ignition system may be at fault, or engine timing.
Usually that is a bad fuel pump. Filter is not on the tank. Test it when it doesn't start, or listen, as when you first turn the key to "run", you should hear the fuel pump cycle.
