XC70 auto diesel. 2004. when the engine is cold, the car goes throught the gears fine. When engine is normal running temp, it slips in and out of gears. Last week it wouldnt engage any gears at all.

its a 5sp manual. only manuals have 5th. your RPM is wrong, it has 1 extra zero. correcting that (the dial shows x1000) so 3.2 is 3200 (3.2x1000= this is normal stock car, , its not a V8. or a diesel, at all.

You are right. The transmission filter should be changed every 60,000 miles. While the pan is off for filter change, add one bottle of Lucas Transmission conditioner into the pan. Reinstall pan and refill with Dextron II fluid. Torque converter is OK.
run engine to operating temp then check your fluid and check it while engine running. I hope you are meaning trans fluid. This is the only way to get accurate reading
