There could be a lot of things going on here, need more information...
If the motor wont turn over when you turn ther key, is there enough power? Charge battery, check charging system.
If the motor turns over but does not start, could be anything from the electronics, fuel delivery etc.
If it just clicks when you turn the key it could be a starter.
Hope this at least gets you started in the right direction.

Hiya...the factory-installed keyless remote control are installed in most Equinoxes IF SO equipped with this option that year.
However, it's difficult to get "true factory-installed" keyless feature in your Equinox ....but new 2008-2009 Equinoxes built this year now comes with standard keyless remote and yes, new option is remote STARTER feature (that option is identified by a black wire found inside the rear-right quarter window with thin metal line surrounding that interior window to receive signal from remote starter fob)
At least you can find after-market keyless remote control at your local retail store.

SOURCE: removing rear break drum from a 2006 chevy Equinox
You need to de-adjust your rear brakes and/or slacken off the park brake cable to remove the drum as the chances are the drum has a wear lip that the shoes are getting hung up on. ( first make sure there isn't a little retaining screw holding the drum on !..visible with the wheel removed)
SOURCE: why wont the key come out of the ignition? 2006 chevy cobalt.
My cobalt turns over but doesnt start up and i dont know whats wrong with it to get it fixed.
SOURCE: replace a key ignition out
The 2005 equinox is equipped with GM passlock anti theft security. By replacing the ignition you have broken the communication for this system. Your vehicle will never start again until you fix that properly. There is a way to bypass that system so it will work. I've done dozens of these bypasses and they work great. Best part is you'll never have to worry about it again. Go to this link and read up on how this system works. The bypass YOU need is under "permanent fix". Trust me, this is your best bet. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/
