If this is a petrol engine have a look at the brake booster leaking vacuum and running the engine too lean to idle. Test by allowing to idle with out your foot on the brake If applying brake pressure shuts the engine down ,replace the brake booster..
Check that the vacuum hose on the brake booster is ok if it has come apart it will be hard to start . have you checked the fuel and the ignition system ?. to check the brake booster , with the engine stopped press the brake pedal down ,then start the engine, the pedal will move down a little if the booster is ok . if the brakes are still hard to press the wheel cylinders may be stuck.
The Stop Light Switch is located by the Brake Pedal arm, it is usually held in with a screw or nut, just unplug the electrical connector, remove the nut or screw and install the new one and tighten and plug everything back up.
Un bolt the master cylinder but don;t disconnect the brake lines move to the front unbolt the 4 bolts holding the booster cortrol unit disconnect the main vacuum hose from booster unit take out replace with new one or junk yard unit there a lot cheaper and reinstall in reverse
check your brake fluid in your car frequently. it is located under the hood on the right hand side. if it is low you have a leak in a brake line somewhere underneath the car. you may need to bleed the brakes. there are bleeders on all four wheels you must have someone applying pressure on the pedal when turning the bleeder to let all the air out of the lines. replace brake fluid after bleeding the brakes.
It sounds as if your brake booster check valve or brake booster itself has failed, allowing vacuum to both sides of the chamber.
You can verify this by pulling the vacuum hose off the brake booster and plugging the hose, then starting the car and seeing if brake pedal operation is normal. **do not drive like this you will have no brake power assist**
If it operates normally, check the check valve that air flow only goes in one direction through it. If normal, replace your brake booster.
possibly the switch is just loose or out of adjustment when u release the emergency brake it comes up and hits a switch that breaks the contact maybe it is barely touching the switch...check to see if its loose or broken where it mounts..adjust according
