Never open the radiator cap, always add coolant at the bottle. Scald hazard is present when removing radiator cap. Try to determine where coolant is going. I believe The water pump runs off of the timing belt $. Check engine oil for presence of coolant (milky). Check for cooling fan operation. Check for condensation at tailpipe. Check thermostat operation at upper radiator hose. If temp gauge gets in the red, the risk of blown head gasket is possible.
