SOURCE: limp in mode
Your shift control computer is getting a bad sensor value. So either a shift control sensor has gone bad, or there is a problem with your transmission. Either take it to a mechanic or buy a scan tool so you can find out the exact nature of the problem if you're going to attempt to fix this yourself.

Is the vehicle's Check Engine Light on? It should briefly light up when you turn the key on (before you start the engine) to show that the light is working correctly. Based on what I've read I believe you should have one or more trouble codes. A place like AutoZone will read the trouble codes for you for free, and you can look them up here - http://www.engine-light-help.com/generic-check-engine-light-codes.html

The filter is inside the transmission. You need to take the pan off the bottom then you can replace the filter and the pan gasket.
SOURCE: my 91 dodge stealth is in limp mode how do i fix
Your car is in "limp"mode because the computer doesn't know what speed your doing,So it doesn't shift,
There are three possible reasons for this,
#1= input sensor faulty on transmission,
#2=output sensor faulty on transmission,
#3=speed sensor faulty on transmission,
you need to have the transmission codes read to know which one,Autozone checks codes for free.
SOURCE: My 2000 dodge caravan just went into its limp mode
The transmissions available in your caravan are problematic for having a bad solenoid pack. Once the transmission is set in the LIMP IN mode, then you need to take it to a dealer to get the code reset from the transmission and to get it diagnosed properly. I'm sure there will be a code such as, "trans solenoid stuck in LR" which means " low range" if the transmission went into limp in mode, then that simply means it defaulted to second gear only. Which is telling you to have it looked at asap. I'm sure if you repalce the transmission solenoid pack and gasket and perform the re-learn procedure, then your problem will go away. good luck!
