Studs have to be hammered out through the back of the hub, and the new ones have to be hammered in.

SOURCE: broken lug nut how to replace lug nut studs

take off tire. remove old stud by hammering it out with a punch. put a socket behind axle plate so as not to break the plate. when replacing, just start stud from back by hand, then use a lug nut to pull it in tight. when tight replace tire!

If you undid the hub nut and retainer ring with clip it should tap off once brake caliper is removed.

Remove and replace lug bolts on my 2001odysey

Jason, im guessing you old ones are either broken or stripped. It will really depend on how long the bolts are.
You can take a punch and hammer, drive out the old ones. If the new ones aren't to long you can slip the new ones in from the back of the hub.
If you are able to slip them in, you can place one of the lug nuts on the stud ( backwards) and proceed to tighten the lug nut until the new bolt completely seats against the hub.
The reason you place the lug nuts backwards is so you don't damage the chamfer, tapered end of the lug nut.

Need help to change front wheel stud on 1999 honda civic EX

1. first take the wheel off so you can see the the caliper and the rotor. make sure the car is on stands and not just waving around on a jack.
2. look behind the caliper and use your finger to locate, a pair of bolts behind the caliper... they will be holding the caliper into place on the suface of the rotor, by a simple look and feel you can see these, they should take a 17mm socket undo them and remove the bolts. at this stage you should see the the caliper become loose.
3. remove the caliper by pulling it up and away from the rotor
4. now you can see the rotor remove this it will simply slide away.
5. this will leave the hub exposed and the studs.. you will see that they are wedged into the hub
6. remove the stud/s by hitting them / it with a hammer be carful to not damage the other studs if you just replacing one.
7. there is one spot where the will be a gap and you will be able to get the stud in behind the hub and have a little bit of room, rotate the hub to there, make sure the car is out of gear or this will be very difficult :)
8 once the stud is in take something you can use as a spacer like a larger then the stud nut. for example and then put one of the wheel nuts on and tighten slightly
9. use a hammer and drive the back of the stud home, and slowly tighten the wheel nut as you go.
10. once this is done your finished put all the bits back togeather in the oppersite order and replace the wheel.

My 91 Honda Accord EX wagon has a broken lug on front driver side. How do i fix it, & will it be ok in the meantime with the three lug nuts on tight?

It is not recommended to drive it like that. It's not too bad to replace but it depends on your level of mechanical skill, You need to remove the brake caliper and disc and then you can simply knock the remains of the broken stud out with a hammer and punch, To fit the new one insert the stud and then put a large nut over the thread, then fit the lug nut and tighten it to pull the stud into the hub, then simply remove the lug nut and put it all back together.

Stud is stripped out in the rear wheel of my 93 honda accord Cannot remove wheel

do you mean the lug nut or the lug? if it is a lug nut then take a metal file and file down the flats to a smaller socket size so you can get a firm grip on it with the smaller socket

1996 Honda accord doesn't know how to replace front wheel broken bolt?

Remove the spindle, take it to a shop with a press, have them press off the hub, replace the broken wheel stud and reinstall.

P.S. If it is a one piece like quite a few accords are, then you may need a bearing as well due to the breakage rate when they are removed.

Hope that helps.

also, 80 lbs/ft is plenty of torque for the lug nuts on any honda car.

Only if there is an Acsess Hole Directly Behind the STUD'S PUNCH THE Broken SHORT one OUT But there May Not Be Enough ROOM FOR the NEW LONG STUD to go in between the HUB & Rotor Check this FIRST If you see GOOD CLEARANCE TO GET The new STUD in Then just Drive the old one out , and Use A LARGER than Stud Nut Or Washers to Pull New Stud Threw some Before Putting Wheel on. Then Put Wheel on And Tighten Wheel , Retorque after a Few Hundred Miles.
