check the trans fluid level and whether the fluid is red and clear or burnt looking like oil. You might want to relist this problem with more information. Like if trans will shift into forward or reverse, if all forward gears work, does the trans downshift upon stopping, does it make noise, will the engine rev up and the car just stands there, etc.
A bad torque converter is the link between the engine and the transmission. It usually is either good or bad and not intermittent. If you relist by answering the above items another Expert may be able to solve this for you.

sounds like when you got it stuck you tryed to get it out and got the clutches hot and they stuck / welded when you put it in revurse does it pul the engine speed down like it is in gear but you give it gas and wont move trying to go forward and back at the same time sounds like trans rebuld time
sounds like transmission damaged. if forward gears are operational, suspect transmission failure. If nothing working ( either in 2 or 4 wheel drive) suspect transmission or transfer case.
you might have a clog in the trans. screen you need to open the trans. pan after you drain it look at the fluid and see if you have to clean it see if it burnt or what you might just need to tune the trans new bands
the linkage is just a slight bit off, it parks between gears when you shift into the slots. Disassemble the shifter from the center console, and slowly move just the cable its self between the positions and see if you have forword gears. When you find and sync the gears, then tighten the cable to the shifter so the positions match the notches in the shifter.
