No but the timing on the engine has to be reset or else the engine will be out of time and back fire and not start. The distributor sits in the oil pump shaft. In order to set the timing you will need to bring #1 piston to the top of the cylinder and point the rotor to #1 in the firing order of the dist. cap and lock down the dist once it is done.

When installing new oil pump from parts house is it preset to the crank on a 2006 chevy Silverado 4x4v8 6.0 vortex

The oil pump is driven off the cam gear on the bottom of the dist. The pump just needs to pump and hold the correct oil pressure for the engine. Hope this helps.

After changing the bottom end of a Chevy 350 vortex how long before the oil pressures up to reach the rocker arms?

Did you prime the oil pump? Pack it with vasoline? Crank the engine without starting it until oil pressure came up?

How does someone install manual oil pressure gauge on 2006 chevy 2500 with 6.0L Vortex

where the oil pressure sender unit is on the block install a "t" fitting . Place the electrical unit in one side and a brass fitting in the other . Run the copper line from the gauge through the firewall to the "T" piece and connect up (if you are using a plastic tube the do not waste your time as the plastic fails -cracks ,slips. or melts causing engine failure) Position the gauge and connect the copper line to the gauge . run engine and check for oil leaks.

2001 Chevy Silverado, 5.3 had only 5 pounds oil pressure, replaced sensor, still 5 lbs of pressure, replace crank driven oil pump, 0 pounds pressure, pickup tube good, o-ring installed correctly on pickup...

remove the pump and the cover off the gears
fill the spaces of the gear teeth with Vaseline or clean grease
this is priming the pump so that a vacuum is created to suck up the oil
new pumps will not be primed
the grease /Vaseline will dissolve in the oil and will not cause any problems

1996 chevy s10 4.3 vortex lifters knocking at start up but goes away after 10 minutes idling. changed oil and filter oil pump reads 58-60psi at idle and seems to be working.

High milage? Try engine cleaner, run for couple hundred miles and then use an additive like Restore. If it's just dirt this may help. Make sure you are using the correct viscosity oil for winter temps. If it's from wear only parts replacement will fix it.

Coolant sensor located on a Chevy Silverado 2006 4.3 vortex

There is one for the computer and one for the gauge. One is on the intake and one screwed into the front water neck on the intake or on the water pump.
