I would try a flush. If its set up like my 96, and it likely is, changing the trasmission gasket and filter will be difficult. Mine has a medal plug on the bottom and takes an allen wrench, and possibly a breaker bar. If you take out this plug, drain, flush then refill via the dipstick tube and a funnel, it may help. You may need to do this a couple of times due to fluid still in the torque converter, pan, etc.
Lucas is good stuff, I would add it again when I was done. The tranny fluid should be pink, mine looked like used oil black before I flushed it.
Also, when adding the new fluid, shift slowly up and down through all of the gears to lube well and check your fluid levels after 100 miles or so, as sometimes a bubble will form and make it look full....then not after it pops.

Go to auto wreckers and replace the console shifter unit (stick, base, and all components) there is a small solenoid on the side of the stick at the base which is malfunctioning thankfully it's made by chevy so there is no dealer cure under several hundred dollars. I went to an auto wrecker got the whole unit for $50 bucks (price will vary depending on area and wrecker) 6 bolts later and a couple clips and i had fixed it, 8 months later still no problems.

you may be confusing the torque converter clutch engagement with o.d. this trans has a problem with the T.C.C. regulator valve wearing out the valve body bore. this will cause the converter clutch to engage only sometimes or not at all. this will set a P1870 code in the control module. when this code is stored in the controller, ( check engine light may or may not be on), it increases the pressure in the transmission causing the 1-2 shift to be harsh. ask a local tranny shop to scan the vehicle ( most will do this for free) if this is the problem they can either fix your valve body (sonnax parts) or replace it with an upgraded valve body. hope this helps
SOURCE: I have an 80 series
It seems like your "2nd start" button is turned on. The 80 series LC has a button next to the shifter which allows it to start in 2nd gear. If the button is not engaged then there could be a problem with the circuit, but that is not common
SOURCE: how do i fix the overdrive ligh flashing on my
The overdrive light is flashing because there is a diagnostic code stored in the Transmission control mudule. You will need to have the codes pulled to know where the problem is.The 2nd gear only condition is not a symptom, it is limp mode caused by the code being stored. There are about 30 different problems that can cause limp mode,so there is no way to guess. There is a procedure to pull codes that I can give you if you want to do it yourself.Just let me know,Thanks!
