If you can get into all the gears, like reverse and park, without the button, then you don't need it.

Why you replace TCC and A & b solenoids? What was your previous wrong to make this job? What about fault codes there, is any code stored even? Most likely you will have to get a transmission shop on it as there should be a scanner hooked up to correctly diagnose your issue.

First try back of the engine slightly toward driver side of car It has a a red pull loop handle and says CHECK IN PARK ENGINE IDLING VEH LEVEL with TRANS HOT and USE DEXTRON FLUID ONLY on the steel part of dipstick. You have a couple of transmissions that could be in there go ahead and check your fluid and see where is at.

Additionally, check if the speedometer stopped working you may want to start by checking the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor). It is located on the top left of the transmission. This provides the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) with vehicle speed and runs the speedo. Without this signal, the PCM can't control shift points, can't lock the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch), and will disable the cruise control (if you have one). This sensor failure should illuminate the MIL but it may take a few drive cycles. That is the first place I would start looking (included wires and harnesses).

Keep us updated.

Could be a CV axle. Could be a lower ball joint also. Neither one of these jobs are difficult to do. Get a manual, buy the tools you need. You will be money ahead.

My 1997 Chevy Cavalier automatic transmission is stuck in neutral and the shifter just glides from park, won't engage in any gears.

If the shift handle moves extremely freely (more than normal), changes are that the shift cable has become disconnected from the shift lever. This would explain the indicator not moving out of neutral.
You will need to access the shift lever by removing the console cover. Once you access the shifter check the cable connection to the level. If the cable is broken, it will need replacement. If the cable clip has broken or fallen off, it will need to be reattached.

2005 Impala gear shift button popped out. I have to put it back in each time I need to shift to D, R, etc. How can I remedy this problem without replacing the whole gearshift?

Re-attaching the knob to the gearshift is the key...Look for a hole on the lower section of the knob...if you cannot see it...remove the bottom chrome piece from the knob, (pry apart carefully not to scratch the chrome housing...you should see the small hole normally includes a small allen insert screw or Phillips screw...must be screwed in to the gear shift shaft to hold in place...if you cannot compare...visit a local salvage yard to experiment..."Pic A Part" is a national self help salvage yard. Hope this helps. If the button does not stay in the gear shift knob...you can replace the knob (with button) only...remove the knob as described above. Hope this helps.

Unless I'm way wrong. 4 cyl, front wheel drive? Your constant velocity joint has either lost its boot, losing all the grease or the joint is worn out. This is a repair for experienced gear heads. Not for amateurs.
