Question about 2005 Dodge Durango

05 Durango 5.7 Hemi overheating. We replaced the water pump it was leaking. While we were doing that we changed the thermostat, flushed the radiator, replaced the belt and the coolant temp sensor.

The vehicle has NEVER overheated prior. The radiator fans are not turning on, however we jumped them and they do work. Also replaced radiator cap. Any ideas what it could be?

You need to verify you have power going to the fans or run the Durango and see if the fan are coming on, you may have a bad wire or relay to the fans.

Car overheating

Two things to check:

1. Make sure you do not have an air bubble in your cooling system. Easiest way is to park facing uphill and let the car cool off. Remove the radiator cap, start the car and let run until the thermostat opens. If there are air bubbles in the cooling system the should be forced out. Top off fluid.
2. Are you sure that the cooling fan is running? When the car is getting hot, open the hood and make sure the radiator fan is actually turning.

You need a radiator. The cores are plugged. Flushing will not help and if you flushed the cooling system when coolant was filthy and rusty everything is now in radiator cores.

Husband changed water pump, clutch fan, radiator cap and thermostat because Durango was overheating, and it is still overheating and makes a loud rattling noise once it gets hot. Any ideas what it can be??...

Did he flush the radiator? If not kindly ask him to flush the radiator and then refill it again.

yes. the impellor on these engines have a tendency to come off the water pump.First you can see if the pump is working by removing a heater hose then have someone to start the engine. if the water sprays a good, solid stream out then the water pump is good. if the water just barely comes out or not at all then the pump is weak or "bad".

Did you check the water pump? If the impeller is broken it will not circulate any coolant.

1994 Honda Civic LX\overheating within 2 mile drive

Remove and raise upper hose at thermostat end and remove lower rad hose.
Fill rad with a hose and watch for flow from bottom rad hose and/ or bottom rad hose connecton.......water should fall though rad easily.
Honda rads are cheap.....any restriction....replace rad.

Remove thermostat....fill thermostat housing with hose and watch for water flow at bottom rad hose.
Flush good.

Remove heater hoses.......flush back and forth until a good flow is present "With heater control set to hot" if no or poor flow....replace heater core.

Stop leak can plug everything.

Also.......not likely causing over heating....but ....at your mileage,if you do not know if the timing belt has been changed.....CHANGE IT NOW!
Water pump is optional at this mileage.

Keep overheating ,wont hold water in radiator

If it overheats very quickly, it likely has a bad thermostat. If the radiator does not fill easily when re-filling, likely the radiator is internally blocked and requires either a flush, boil out or replacement. Make sure any electric fans are properly operating. If you have any white smoke or coolant in engine oil, you may have a blown head gasket. A shop can identify this condition by checking for hydrocarbons in the cooling system, or by doing a compression or leakdown test.Do the easy stuff first...change the thermostat. If problem continues, go further with your diagnostics.
