They don't call them 'fan belts' any more because the belt doesn't run the cooling fan because they are all electric. They are now called a 'serpentine belt', I guess because they wrap around all the pulleys like a serpent..
This is not an easy job on this vehicle because the belt has a fixed engine mount in the middle of it! This explains
Two places it cold be. Most likely is under the vehicle, on the drivers side, behind the drivers door. Next could be behind the gas tank, in the center of it.
I don't know anything about the 2008 Pontiac but I bet the makers know. And assembly workers had assembled this model at the factory. Bet they may know something. Liberties have clues researching their stock of workshop manuals on the Torrent. And I bet entering key words of the fault in a search engines on youtube that may produce some interesting youtube videos on the torrent. What ever the choice you make I hope you come up with something that may help.
You might just need to have sensitivity turned down or,was it hot out? If it is an after market alarm, sounds like they installed a mercury vibration sensor, These tend to go off easier because, as you know, mercury expands when hot. Making the contact gap more sensitive. I would be suprised, but it's worth looking into. Very old school set up.
