700 r4 shift hard

I just put a 700r4 in my 84 camaro. it is much better than my last one except when i put it in gear it makes a loud bang noise. and when i give it about half throttle itll shift really hard into second, sometimes even chirping the tires. but when i have it wot it feels like it shifts fine. someone told me it may have a shift kit in it. but im a little concerned. any advice?

The u-joints could cause the banging when you put it in gear. You might want to check the kick down cable. If it's out of ajustment it can cause the hard shift. The transmission thinks the motor is going faster then what it is and will shift harder. Put the car up on jack stand in the rear and put the tranny in neutral.turn the drive shaft back and forth with your hand and see if you hear the clunk or bang you heard when you put it in gear. if not then I would go with the kick down cable being to tightor to short on ajustment. However you want to look at it.

If you would like a smoother shift, you could change the 1 -2 accumulator spring to cushion the shift. A sharp shift on a 700-4R is pretty common in a Camaro, but you can make is shift softer, smoother with a few changes. The servo for the band may have been upgraded as well. You should consult a transmission shop to see if it has any upgrades in it.

It might have a tv cable way out of adjustment. Those also had a plastic governor gear that would strip and hang. These are both potential problems to start on taming it down.

Accelerated from a stop and heard a loud bang coming from rear of jeep and then it wouldn;t go anywhere i put it in reverse and then it moved forward i have a 1985 cj7

Distributor shifted on you and timing is out of phase. turn the distributor about 1/4 inch counter clockwise with your hands and test drive it . if it improves you have a busted bolt on the core (not uncommon for an old CJ) .. may need to tighten bolt or drill out a new thread and put a tight bolt in . When you are out of phase, it sounds like you have an exhaust problem , loud noise in exhaust and no compression nor acceleration , except in lower (high rev) gears. jorge diaz

So we took our 2003 Chevy S-10 truck into a local shop to get new seals as we had transmission fluid leaking. The truck was working properly when we took it in. When we went to pick it up they told us that...

a transmission that has wear tends to leak and a fluid change may not help instead make matters worst and the loud sound is bad news yes the transmission build pressure and blew it it's not common to blow fusses that unless is the fuse for the transmission or they disturbed any wire harness.

The rattle is likely a loose shield or a bad catalytic converter. As for the loud banging, Have you checked the front U-joints behind the brake rotors. As for the Reverse noise? Auto or stick shift?

My car is 1988 camaro and with a 5 speed transmission, and the 3rd and 4th gear wont go into gear. seems like it is going in, but makes a noise, and i have all other gears

on the shift forks in that 5 speed are a thin aluminum ridge that fits into the ring that shifts the gear,, if it was shifted hard, this can break off and you wouldn't be able to **** those gears any longer ,, I have had to fix this same problem on one of my friends cars

Can't get low gear

if memmory serves me correct its been a while since last tranny rebuild and adjustment
on a 700-r4 type transmission
make sure that the shim kit was used properly with this transmission cause wrong sized length of linkage can make the trans. shift improperly
you have the linkage under neith adjusted wrong the shift bar on tranny should face 90 degrees up towards front of vehicle engine for proper adjustment
